Hi my name is Hattah and I am new here in farm-country. lol

I am hoping to find a brilliant lady who may remember this recipe.
I wish I ha a name for it but I only have a memory and an idea of what may have been in it.

I am 52 years old.
this recipe was made for me when I was 8. So circa 1964.
It was a cake made in an angel food cake pan.
It had strawberries in it.
It was a refrigerator cake.

I believe it had cream (?) mixed in with the strawberries and was poured oveer the cake so that it soaked in.
There were also strawberries in the cake batter.
The topping (not so much a frosting) and was probably whipped cream.
It may well have been an angel food cake dressed up.

I seem to remember seeing the recipe in a magazine and begging my mother to make it1 make it! make it!lol

I definitely remember sneaking chunks until it was gone.

That cake had a texture I have never come across since and a flavor that was just yummy. It was almost like an ice cream cake but it had no ice cream.

I have looked everywhere I can think of,Woman's Day, Better Homes, Family Circle, you name it. I am thinking it was probably an ad for a "new" food that they wanted you to try and so concocted a recipe. I don't think Cool Whip was around then...I am stymied.I am more than sure there wasn't any jello in it.

If any of you ladies have any clue as to what this may be pleeeeease
let me know. My mom and I would be forever grateful. lol
thankies
hattah

Angie, It doesn't say in the recipe! It just says springform pan! I would increase it to fit a standard pan!

I would love to have one of those baking ovens the magazine had the cobbler in. I have never seen one before. And I have had a lot of ironware through the years. Do any of you know where to get one?

BTW I am grocery shopping today and I am making at least ONE cake. lol I will let you all know how it turns out!

old fashioned girl, what size pan if it is only two servings? I guess you could double or triple for a large family. I only have the standard size springform pan

Alee if I thought it would make it to you in one piece I more than gladly would. I am going to try the one I posted later on today after I go to the store. Do you have a grill or fire pit? I bet you could bake the cake in a dutch oven out there!!

Hattah, here is a recipe that sound a lot like what you described. It's out of a 1950's cookbook.

Strawberry Refrigerator Cake
6 ladyfingers or 1 small spongecake
3 Tbs. sugar
1 1/4 c. crushed strawberries
1/3 c. heavy cream
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 Tbs. chopped nuts
Line spring-form pan with cake. Add sugar to strawberries. Whip cream with vanilla. Cover cake with berries and whipped cream. Repeat in layers until all material is used up, saving part of the cream for top of cake. Sprinkle with nuts. Chill 8 hours. Serves 2.

I just gained 15 lbs reading recipes. lol
My they do sound very close especially the pouncake one. It may have had gelatin as theother recipe stated as it was only aspoonful or two. As soon as I get home and i front of my own computer I am emailing these to my mum.

I do think it was a birthday cake for me too. I am a July b-day so it makes sense.
Can't wait to get home so I can cook!
:D

It sounds like the Tupperware recipe I have made years ago (late '70's) you used an angel food cake like that, but then put it into a tupperware mixing bowl with lid and poured the other ingredients around it...and then it went to the fridge to soak in and firm up...it had jello in it though...and cream if I remember right and strawberries.

Unfortunately I don't have a grandmother that bakes but I know several surrogate baking granny's though Eastern Star and I called around and was able to have one of them e-mail this recipe. Maybe this will help Hattah! The lovely gal that gave it to me is in her late 70's but sharp as a tack.

OLD FASHIONED STRAWBERRY POUND CAKE

Cake Ingredients:
3 cups flour
3 cups sugar
1 cup butter
1 cup heavy whipping cream
6 eggs
1 Tbsp. vanilla

Directions:
Cream butter and sugar well, add eggs one at a time, beat well. Add flour and cream alternating, add in vanilla. Mix well together scraping sides of bowl. Place in a bundt pan that is well greased with butter and dusted with flour. Pour in batter and start in cold oven. Do not preheat oven. Place pan in oven and set temperature at 350 degrees. Bake for one hour or until cake springs back to the touch or test with a wooden skewer or toothpick.

Strawberry Topping
2 tablespoons strawberry gelatin
1/4 cup boiling water
1 1/4 cups crushed strawberries
1 1/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups sour cream

Directions:
While cake is baking, dissolve gelatin in boiling water.
When completely dissolved, stir in strawberries, sugar, and sour cream.
Place strawberry mixture in refrigerator until cake is cool.
When cake is cool to the touch, poke holes all over the top with the end of a wooden spoon or chopstick.
Pour strawberry mixture all over cake.

**Refrigerate overnight to allow strawberry mixture soak into the cake. Note: The strawberry mixture is very runny, but will soak into the cake if A LOT of holes are poked on top of the cake and it is allowed to chill overnight.

Frost with fresh whipped heavy cream before serving or just garnish each slice with a dollop! Then enjoy!!

I think that may be the cake my mom used to make for my birthday every year... for years!! I will see if I can track down the recipe I have from her. Sure sounds familiar.
