I was out and about today. Stopped at the library and then at the bookstore. Our local little shop is closing and I still had a "tab". She took in a bunch of my old books and gave me "store credit". What a great deal! Anyway...I had to use up my credit because she is closing. I was feeling a bit dejected cause her selection is a little low when I came across Laurel's Kitchen Caring, Recipes for Everyday Home Caregiving!!! Well, I snatched it up because years (and I mean years) ago I had the Laurel's Kitchen cookbook and LOVED it! Somewhere in my travels it disappeared. I was bemoaning that fact to the store owner and she said "I love that one too...we have that!" And low and behold she whips out The NEW Laurel's Kitchen!!! I am beside myself with a little bit of joy today!!!!! The caring book talks about teas, home remedies, and good olde comfort foods like mac-n-cheese and soups! And of course the big Laurel's Kitchen is just, well, Laurel's Kitchen!!! There is this fantastic addition to the back of the book called A Handbook of Nutrition. Oh and did I mention these recipes were entirely vegetarian??? I can hardly wait to get back into it! I was looking through my Moosewood Cookbook for my carob brownie recipe the other day and was actually thinking about this cookbook...and...it appeared!

I'm glad you found both of them. The New Laurel's Kitchen is a little different than the old one, but mostly in Carol Flinders' editorial articles and the artwork. I have all three of them and the bread book. The Caring Recipes is great and you don't even have to be sick to enjoy the recipes, but they're really, really wonderful when you are!

Yeah! Great that you found a replacement for your "old lost friend."

I love my Moosewood Cookbook. I love ALL cookbooks, old and new. I collect them and enjoy reading them like other people read novels.
