Posted - Oct 24 2005 : 12:28:43 PM Ok I want to buy a 50# bag of OG white unbleached flour from the co-op but I have no idea how to store it properly. By my estimates I use almost 5# a week. So I need to store it to last about 3 months. No room in the freezer, I store my WW flour there.
How do you gals store flour if you buy in bulk???

Posted - Oct 25 2005 : 2:07:56 PM Any food-grade plastic bucket should work. Check out a restaurant supply store, or ask at local restaurants--usually they get 5-gallon buckets of sauces in them.
You should freeze your flour for two days to make sure you've killed any bugs. After that, store it in your pantry but keep it sealed up tight! You don't want to open up your stored flour in a month and find those nasty little moths enjoying it, instead of you.

Posted - Oct 24 2005 : 4:10:44 PM I have flour stored in both 5 gallon buckets and #10 cans that hold about 5 lb each. I store them in the cellar..but before we lived here I had buckets everywhere!! closets and places like that too.

Posted - Oct 24 2005 : 4:07:03 PM Well, I store mine in the freezer. But if you have an air tight (bug and mouse tight) container, that should be fine. You could always put the container outside when it gets cold.
