...topped with a generous spoonful of sugar and smothered in thick cream.

Strawberries + sugar + cream = heaven.

What are your favorite 'guilty pleasure' snacks? I think this is even better than ice cream!!

Nigella,
Your post reminds me of Leann Rimes song "a good friend and a glass of wine"..

Hmm...I was munching on feta cheese out of the fridge the other night...does that count as high end cheese?? ROFL It is so good, though!!

Peaches, strawberries...I bet blackberries would be good...any summer fruit that's sweet and juicy...topped with cream.

Heck yeah Paige! My mom and I do wine, expensive cheese and fruit together on Friday nights... such a nice thing to look forward to during the week! Diane, we used to go peach picking when I was a kid and we too would drizzle cream (or drown...) all over those soft, warm little beauties... there can't really be anything wrong with these 'guilty pleasures' after all they are soooo good for the soul :D

I'll have to second the cheese. A good goats cheese with fresh strawberries, and a pinot noir is my favorite indulgence. super yummo!

Too funny Jodi! But you did bring back a wonderful childhood memory when we lived on the prairies. In late summer we could get fresh peaches from the coast and we'd stop at a farm on the way to our cottage and pick up a quart jar of the thickest, sweetest cream imaginable. Simple heaven!

Really high end cheeses. I could live on all cheese, but my favorite (recently) is a black pepper goat cheese wrapped in a fig leaf which has been soaked in vanilla bourbon.

Yum.
