We're going camping this weekend for the first time! We've got 4 kiddos ages 2-8. We'll be gone 2 nights, 3 days, so we need lots of ideas, beyond hot dogs and lunch meat. I do have a few of MJ's camp food items, but I'd love to hear your ideas! Thanks in advance!

We had kabobs last night!! We do hobo dinners (burger patty, sliced potatoes, carrots and onion and salt and pepper or favorite seasoning wrapped in foil and cooked on the grill outdoors) for our campouts and I like to do bisquits on a stick..you just wind a long thin strip of bisquit dough around a stick and cook over the campfire..the kids love it. We do the corn on the grill in the husks too, and baked potatoes in the coals too. When we have gone with cubscouts we make "cubscout stew" for family groups we call it mystery stew..everyone brings 1 can (for small kids) or 2 cans (for adults or big kids) of their favorites and put it all in a pot and cook it up. It turns out pretty good no matter what. I always make sure my own favorites are stewed tomatoes cuz it makes a good base. And I bring onion and garlic and salt and pepper for seasoning.
serve with crackers and it is a fun meal that kids love.
For breakfasts we do breakfast burritos alot...scrambled eggs, cheese, chopped ham or bacon (or no meat at all) and hash browns if we have them...all in a big flour burrito..a hit every time.

yup we do tin foil cooking too. Kabobs are also fun and easy. Do the meat on one skewer and veggies on another though cause the cooking times are different.

We like to do tin foil cooking. I googled tin foil camping meals and there were lots of links. One in particular looked fun http://www.thecampingguy.com/no_pots.html
corn on the grill is good too. Of course s'mores. Enjoy! JoAnn

We always made spaghetti with garlic bread sides. Goulash isn't bad either. It was best for us to have one-dish meals.

Where are you going? Our favorite was the Oregon Coast.
