The cookbook some of you were talking about last week sounded good so I ordered it used, it came today. Looks like a nice one. I will sit down later and look through it. Also went to the thrift with my friend, told her I was just there yesterday, but she wanted the company. Anyway, I only bought one thing, but its a nice old rolling pin. So I was glad I went along. I posted a picture. SURPRISE!

Yes I think you are right about the tupper ware thing. But I think you should be more worried about the dreams you have been having.

It's been years but didn't Tupperware have one of those at one time that you put ice water in?
I could be wrong though....sometimes I think I just dream about that stuff and it's not really true...been living alone too long! LOL!

I've never heard of the ones that can have cold water inside. I want to check that out! Sounds perfect for handling pie dough.

That IS a great idea! I went and checked and I only have 3..one is mine, one was my Mother's and the other one was my Mother's too but it is a silicone covered one. Hmmm....I think I'm going to keep my eye out for some more....I think that would look cool like Frannies...all in a big crock. Anything that adds to that ole-time, homey feel!

Thought you ladies might find this interesting since you most obviously love your pins! Last year I went to a cute little 'eating establishment' located on Pumpkin Hill, in Aurora NY(Home to Mackenzie Childs) Well, this quaint little restaurant had dessert menus that were sort of rolled/laminated around old rolling pins! The paper looked like parchment and the text was a lovely script font. So, when you wanted the dessert menu, they handed you a rolling pin! It was sooo adorable. Oh, and they serve salads in little metal colanders with a big hunk of crusty bread in the bottom so that your dressing doesn't leak all over!
I was so impressed with the rolling pin idea!

oh nancy ... i, too, love old rolling pins. i remember the day that my little wednesday was helping me clean up after a 'tea party' in maryland. i heard the vacuum turn off .. and looked in the dining room doorway .. and there she was with her little hands on her little hips (this was about 6 years ago) ... she looked at me and pleadingly asked: "mom .. you aren't going to save all these treasures for me are you?" (wednesday is MUCH more of a 'minialimist' than i am! she did not get the 'collecting' gene from me (not YET anyway!)

i asked whatever did she mean .. she came into the kitchen and simply said: ROLLING PINS .. and went to the kitchen counters with the crocks i had filled with rolling pins .. she stopped counting at FIFTY .. and told me to keep my three most favorite ones and release the rest.

i had to LAUGH that christmas when she called me and i heard this meek little voice on the other end of the phone .. she told me she was making "Christmas Cookies" and discovered that she didn't have a 'rolling pin'! HA! i sent her my three most favorite!

the cook book sounds great .. give us some fav recipes from it! xo

Okay...how about I just send you a check every month and you could shop for me and I'll include money for gas and shipping but no food allowance...I draw the line there. The only problem is you would keep all the good stuff and I'd get what you didn't want but actually your castoffs would still be better than the stuff I have decorating my home! And yes...your displays look like something out of a magazine...are you one of those 'stylists" they talk about?
You know it was really just another rolling pin...but the red handles? GET OUT! You got me with the red handles for sure. You ARE good....did you used to work for Christy's...you know that auction house in NY?
Good to see your posts as always and your treasures which I wish were my treasures..oh well another day...another sale. :)

Someday I'm going to make a rack. like a gun rack, for my rolling pins, I've only got a few so far, my favorite , an old china one with a cork plug to keep the cold water in , got smashed years ago, it was just so sweet, old and crackled, but with flowers on it. I found another rolling pin you can put cold water in, but it's just kind of ugly aluminum. Ah well, someday i may find another. That's half the fun, and spotting things you know someone else would love is the other half. That cookbook does look interesting....

I completely understand. Collections just have a way of sneaking up on a person. Suddenly, one day, you need a shelf to hold them or a special place to display them. Do you have yours out somewhere, or put away in a drawer?

Woo hoo, Nancy Jo! It IS a good cookbook! I sure hope you find it as great as I do. What a rolling pin--they're pretty fabulous, and shoot, you can't have too many :)

It's really impossible to turn down a nice old rolling pin. How many do you have now? I know you have some good old ones. Do you have enough to officially call it a 'collection' yet? ;)
