What's the best way to keep fruit like cherries and grapes fresh for as long as possible?
I got some gorgeous organic cherries today.

Honestly? I keep my grapes frozen! I love eating them like that! They last a looong time that way as well. They are just wonderful frozen/cold - especially here in the summer... (don't know about cherries - I love them fresh and don't stay long!) |

Just to digress a bit off topic.
but has anyone else noticed how long home grown lettuce stays fresh?
Ours was about to bolt last week ,so I did a last blitz on the lettuce beds and hoped at least some would last a while in the frige
Last night we took a tasty salad to a party , and that lettuce was crisp and oh so good
I have also heard about those green bags, sadly in our house, fresh produce doesn't last long enough to go bad
now if they could only make a bread keeper |

Kim.. I have a full houseful of boys so my struggle to have them last is slightly different (lol) and hey.. Here.. there arent any questions to simple, thankfully!

Thanks Kelly! I had heard of those but hadn't talked to anyone that had used them. I'll have to some up this week. We have the same problem, there's only three of us here and the produce would go bad before we could eat it all. It will definitely save money in the long run with those bags.

I went to Walgreens & got a box of those Green Bags. They work great. Our fruit & leafy greens tend to go bad more quickly than we can eat them. We always tend to throw some away. I had seen these before, but until my SIL & friend from work recommended them I didnt get them. I would normally buy two 1lb pkgs. of strawberries & before the 1st was gone, the second would be spoiling. Well I have had some strawberries in there for a week & they still look great. Same thing with leafy greens & some grapes I have. Now I don't have to throw any away & I can still get extra at the store instead of several trips. They cost $10 there are 20 bags. All you have to do is make sure your produce is dry, stick it in & fold down the top. I think they will be great $ savers. You can use them several times before you have to replace them.

Do you keep them in the slotted bag they come in to get circulation? I know this is common sense stuff but it seems like the fruit I"ve been buying has been going bad really quickly and I'm trying not to waste food or money....

keep them cool... as even room temp will cause them to mature fast....
