My husband has finally gotten back into the fields and is side-dressing corn tonight, so when he is not here for supper, I rarely cook meat. Tonight, I had sugar snap peas, regular peas, and green beans, all from my garden. I also had a salad. I have lettuce in my garden, too, but needed to use up some from the store.
My mom would have had a hard time not throwing in something of a different color, she can't stand monochromatic plates, but I liked my GREEN meal. I almost took a picture, it was kinda pretty.
Anyone else have supper from the garden? |

Posted - Jun 20 2008 : 03:13:38 AM We have enjoyed red flame lettuce as of a week ago. Now that it's hot we have to turn the bolted lettuce under and wait for the 'maters and corn to come off. I did pick 2 huge bags of lettuce. Amazing how long the stuff keeps!
Some summers all I eat is corn for dinner and a salad of cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes---no lettuce! |

Posted - Jun 18 2008 : 6:19:39 PM I had a beautiful salad for lunch..mostly green since I didn't have a tomato..it did have some baby carrots and turkey though...and avacado and cucumber with the mixed spring greens. I LOVE all garden and all green suppers. My husband isn't as much of a fan..haha Usually when we have ripe corn we have one big corn meal..nothing but corn on the cob and lemonade..and homemade bread if the kids want some. I do make a more balanced lunch that day..but fresh garden things are my favorite. When the tomatoes are ripe I eat cottage cheese with fresh tomatoes twice a day for a couple weeks and never tire of it!

Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said.
The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and the lightning bug. -- Mark Twain |
