Posted - May 21 2008 : 7:03:13 PM I'm replacing plastics in my kitchen and I need help! You know the big Tupperware mixing bowl that we all use for mixing cookies and bread? Where can I find one that size in glass or ceramic? Thanks! |

I use stainless. It's deep enough for sloppy mixing jobs |

Posted - May 23 2008 : 05:51:52 AM My mom gave me the older pyrex bowls-- green with white flowers-- and they are my favorite mixing bowls ever--after YEARS of getting mixing bowls. LOL

Posted - May 23 2008 : 05:34:55 AM Williams Sonoma has the best set of nesting glass mixing bowls ever. The price was reasonable when I got them (some of their odds and ends are actually quite reasonable), but I imagine shipping would be an issue. The smallest would hold an egg yolk, and gets pressed into service for pet-related things around here. The largest is big enough for me to knead a two-loaf bread recipe right in the bowl. |

Posted - May 22 2008 : 1:44:20 PM Last time I was at Lehman's I picked up some of the granny-ware and splatter-ware planning to buy it and was disappointed by the "Made in China" sticker on the bottom. Just don't want anybody to think they're getting something old-fashioned made in the USA.
You can get Fiestaware mixing bowls now from Homer Laughlin China Co, but they sure aren't cheap. Alee the ceramic mixing bowl set on that Van Dyke's website are really cute. Maybe not big enough.
Any online restaurant supply place should have the stainless ones though. That's what my mom uses at her cafe. Go to http://www.restockit.com/ and search for mixing bowl, you'll get a bunch.

Posted - May 22 2008 : 11:41:43 AM I am in the market for mixing bowls too. I broke my favorites. They were longaberger mixing bowl set and I used to store them nested in my dining room hutch....when they weren't in the dishwasher (I used them a lot). Anyway, I was making bread and had a little bit of oil on my hands when I went to grab my set out of the hutch....dropped them and the only one that didn't break was the tiny one. I was sick, I cried and I am not a cryer but they were my favorites. Apparently they were discontinued by Longaberger. My sweet DH tried to replace them when he saw how sad I was but we can't find them.

Posted - May 22 2008 : 07:39:53 AM Also, some of the KitchenAid mixer/blender/food processer Centers come with both amall and large glass mixing bowls. I use my large glass bowl mixing cookie dough and other stuff, even if I don't haul out the whole Kitchenaid setup...and those might be found at thrift stores as well.

Posted - May 22 2008 : 07:28:07 AM I have both also. I have found all of my bowls at the thrift stores and garage sales. I've been going away from plastic and tupperware and working on building my supply of glass bowls for over a year. They are fairly easy to come by used, just keep an eye out for them.

Posted - May 21 2008 : 9:29:19 PM I like to use big stainless steel bowls when I need to make something big, they're pretty light in weight, and if I drop them, they don't break. You can find nice, cheap; ones quite easily....Karin
