Okay girls, I need your advice. I have decided that I need an apron. As a former culiary student, I got used to wearing aprons all the time but got away from it after I decided that the chef's life was not for me. I'm sick of constantly wiping my wet hands on my cloths (I'm a slob - can't deny it) so I want to get an apron. Can you recommend where I can find some? I want the full apron like you wonderful farm divas have! I can't go back to my old chef's aprons because they were ugly and had no flair or style to them!

Colette - I always put a large pocket on the front of the aprons I make but divide it in two by sewing down the middle. Without sewing it the pocket would flop open.

I'm still hot...it just comes in flashes.

Personally, I would divide it into two or three pockets. One big pocket will be just a big bowl that things fall out of, and the material with stretch more easily that way too. You could be creative and have the center pocket be open from the top and the side two open from the side, or all three open from the top. Have fun with it!

I have a question for those of you who wear aprons a lot. I bought some of the cutest "retro" print floral dishtowels over the weekend that I plan on turning into a half apron or two. My question is about the pocket. I want a large front pocket, but should I leave the entire top open or should I make side or top corner openings? I am wondering about things falling out of the pocket when I bend or reach.
Opinions?
Melissa - I think it is great you made one out of a towel - my grandmother alway wore half aprons she made out of terry towels - great for wiping your hands! I guess that is why I want to make one now.

Enjoy the good things in life - especially when there is time for tea!

You could always offer to barter for one with your Farm Girl friends on the FarmGirl Barter section...think about what do you have to offer in return...what's YOUR speciality?

I can sew, if all you mean is poking material with a needle and thread. Now if you're talking about it being neat, straight, and lined-up and looking professional, that's another story. And as for sewing machines, I've never met one yet that I haven't been able to jam completely up!!

I took a nice plaid kitchen towel and made it into an apron. I think I got the pattern on Martha Stewarts website. It's really easy to make. If you don't have a sewing machine, this is something you can totally do by hand.

Rachel -- can you sew? Aprons really are very easy to make and there are some wonderful patterns out there. I agree with checking out second hand stores and also estate sales.

Hey Rachel, Check out second hand stores. I have found bunches of aprons there.
