I just made my second batch of Mary Jane's No-fuss Biscuits (at the request of Bo, who rarely asks me to make anything twice!) Boy, are they good! I admit I tweaked the recipe a bit, though.

I used whole milk, lots of fresh-grated extra sharp tillamook cheddar, and a handful of dried chopped chives. The first time, I'd mixed up some Budget Mix with some dried thyme and parsley, planning on making some dumplings for a chicken soup, but the soup was too stew-like without, so I skipped the dumplings and added cheese, chives, and more Budget mix to the thyme-flour mix and made biscuits instead.

Please feel free to steal my ideas. I promise, even your picky hubby will like it.

What have you been baking lately? What's your latest concoction/new old favorite?. I'm working on making fresh bread at least once a week, but need to perfect my recipe and technique. My new old fave is the biscuits mentioned above.

Oh, Kate. I've been there. I bought 2 dozen cupcakes for my own birthday party with my friends this year, and hardly anyone ate them, so Bo and I had to try to eat them before they went bad.

I baked 17 strawberry muffins yesterday. I know, very early for strawberries, but they were SO GOOD!!! I used a recipe from the Joy of Cooking. (I can't believe I ever lived without that book before.) I also went a little crazy taking pictures of the strawberries before and after, which you can see on my blog.

Yesterday, I baked two dozen cupcakes for four girls for my daughter's birthday party. I ate two, my friend ate two, my son ate four. Those little girls ate the rest. (gag)
Then today I baked two cakes for her family party. One of my killer Chocolate cakes, and one marble.

I have half the marble, and 1/3rd of the chocolate left.
I never thought I would say this, but I am sick of cake.

ACK! Just ran out of Budget Mix! NO!!! I'M DOOMED!!!

Just kidding. I'm already ordering a 10lb. bag to replenish my cupboard.

Rene-
Not much of a secret, just something I knew he'd like, and I'd once bought some really tasty green onion and cheese rolls at a farmers market here. Those were the most fluffy rolls I've ever had, and I wanted to try to recapture that.

Now I must go wash the flour off my hair and face. I'm steppin' out with my best girl friend tonight.
