Posted - May 09 2008 : 05:41:08 AM I went to a class last night where the teacher had lots of useful information about canning and food storage. Best idea I heard, though, was about storing water. She recommended filling up all your empty quart jars with water while they aren't being used. Great idea! They are taking up shelf/ pantry/ garage space anyway, might as well put something in them! Then, when you need the jars, just use the water to fill up your canner, water your garden, etc.

Posted - May 09 2008 : 07:47:33 AM Great idea. Us in the north will have to remember to store the jars with water in it where it will not freeze : ) JoAnn |

Posted - May 09 2008 : 06:57:43 AM That's a great idea. I keep about 20 gal jugs of water already because we end up on boil order every spring due to run-off. But you're right. The jars are already taking up space.
