I know that food costs are rising in this economy, and I'm willing to give up a great deal from my "list" (hurry up summer so I can quit buying veges and herbs and I can "shop" my own garden!), but is there something that you just can't do without at the market?

My weakness is Irish butter. It's $4.00 a lb. and I have to have it--for me (a foodie--guilty as charged)--it's the purest ingredient I can use. I do purchase other butter/spreads, but there are definitive rules for using the "good butter".

So, here's the crazy part. I would buy that butter and skimp on something else.

Anyone want to admit their vices?

Organic milk and now, thanks to the tea swap, black chai tea! Together, it's heavenly, even iced!

i am the biggest foodie most of the time, but the number one thing I am really sort of a snob about is olive oil.

Come on over the biscuits will be warm from the oven..

By the way their is a homebased business here in TN where the lady makes HONEY PECAN JELLY - IT IS DELICIOUS. Kinda reminds me of the filling in a pecan pie. YUMMMMM. Now that would be good on some bisuits.

I better get to the wieght buddy forum FAST

We are foodies too. My two big splurges are on good cheese and good coffee. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my first cup of coffee in the morning and I like a good strong cup of fresh ground brew. Starbucks Sumatra is my favorite!

Now I want Irish Butter and Tupelo honey on homemade biscuits with a cup of coffee of course

Ooh I love honey also, mine has to be the dark buckwheat honey and I get it from the farmer's market here. I also like really good goat's cheese, also from the weekly farmer's market.

I have several but the most obvious would be Cheese. Hubby and I are really lucky not to have a lot of debt and other expenses. We are BOTH Foodies so that is definatly a BIG part of our budget. We love fish too which is really pricy since we are so far from the sea.

Isn't that funny!!! How many of us like this butter in particular! I was trying to think if there was anything else that I can't leave off my list of must haves (especially since I'm going grocering this weekend) and the only other things are Ale 8 One, a Kentucky made soda (in the bottles only) and proscuitto. Seems extravagant, but I use it constantly to flavor soups, or to stuff chicken and it lasts because it's cured.

Thank goodness I can come out of the closet too! It's Kerry Gold for me also. My husband is Irish so when we were first married, I went all out for St Paddy's day that year and bought every Irish thing I could find. I fell in love with the taste and texture of that butter! I just stock up when its on sale and freeze it. I too have to join Costco!
My other must haves are kosher salt, very good olive oil, Girl Scout Thin Mints and brie with french bread.

We have Blue Bell here in Minnesota.
I love Bryer's ice cream.

I splurge on milk. I buy some from the coop that is local milk. Even the picky boy brat drinks it. It doesn't taste so sterile, and I am supporting my local diary and coop, and not Kemps.
However, with that said, I will buy kemps Select when this milk isn't available to me. It is the closest I can get in comparison to taste from a commercial/convenience stand point.

Alright, Karin...now I know I'm going to have to go to Costco for that price on Kerry Gold! Finally something I can justify :) It's wonderful...and yes, it is less salty. Nothing better on a fresh scone than that butter!!!

p.s., thanks for the tip about Costco :)

It's Kerry Gold Irish butter for me too, Jonni! I buy it at Costco for 7.99 for 3 packages. Cheaper then Publix, which is the only other store that carries it. It is so good, and seems to be less salty than our butter. Other than that, Bahlsen's milk chocolate Choco Liebniz cookies. I only get them when I go to the DeKalb Farmer's Market, which is not very often. I buy two boxes, one for me, one for my daughter and put them in the freezer. They are a lovely little treat when I need a chocolate fix. :)
