About 4 years ago, I purchased some cheap but heavy weight dishes from the dollar store. They have worn well but take up a lot of space and are heavy. I lost a few to cracks and chips. I have been eyeing the square lightweight dishes at Target and a few other places and am really interested. Can they withstand a clumsy mom, hard on dishes dad and a toddler???

Cheers,
Heather

My mother has the plain white, and she bought them at Richter & Phillips in 1974---she uses them still as her "nice" dishes, and she's never broken one. In fact, they show very little wear and tear at all. I don't think you could go wrong in purchasing them as something lasting. I've seen the newer patterns at Kohls. Very cute!

You can order Corelle from their website also. Sometimes they have good deals.

I am still using the thrift store Corelle that my husband had before we got married. It is great stuff. Easy to handle, so I don't drop dishes in the sink when I'm washing. And they are tough even when I do drop them. If I ever get around to buying new dishes, they will be Corelle.

I love the new square corelles.. I love the one with the pretty pink flowers. but I would have to buy 2 sets for our family and that's $100 I can't spare for new dishes right now.

I love my Corelle. Hubby brought me a set 2 years ago after numerous earthenware dish sets. These wash up great and are parctically break proof. Mine have been through 5 kids and 3 are still at home so you can imagine what they( the dishes) go through!

I have had my corelle for ages. I've been married nearly 25 years and some of it is almost that old. I will say that as it gets really old sometimes it "dries out" or whatever the description should be and then does break sometimes when dropped. However, this is WAY past the expected life of the stuff. Mine has lasted a very long time. Try it, I think you will like it.

They sure don't break easily! I only have two platters right now...which have survived a heavy handed husband for years and years of barbquing..but have had other Corelle dishes over the years and really liked them. A few years ago I pared down and only have one set of dishes for everything now..just alot of them....they are old and my favorites...and then I have 4 tupperware plates for the kids for lunch and stuff so they can take them outside if they want.
I would recomend the corelle stuff for sure though.

The only one I have ever had break was one Tate dropped on the cement floor! They are great and last forever, plus are lightweight. I love mine.

They'll last long after you're tired of the pattern :) I had some for probably 15 years and now my son is using them.
When the Pfaltzgraff gets too heavy for me to lift in my old age, I'll probably go back to the lightweight Corelle.
I have some Corning Ware I bought with wedding gift money in 1962. For baking and roasting, it's still good stuff. See it in thrift shops often too.
Some brands/products do stand the test of time.

Our family used Corelle when I was growing up and I can't remember us ever breaking a plate. We have some heavy Corelle like plates from Wal-Mart and they stand up very nice. I would recommend them in a heart beat. Sometimes you can get Corelle plates at Goodwill, especially the outdated patterns.

Heather,
I have had my Corelle for quite some time.
It has withstood three children and now is being used by us all and our grandchildren. they are 1 and 2 1/2 yrs old. We have dropped them and the only time one broke was when it was dropped on a brick floor. That's understandable and nothing is indestructible. I would definitely recommend it for use with children, holds up very well.
