Posted - Mar 31 2008 : 12:28:05 PM I put some very hot chili into glass canning containers and lidded them- not to can, just to store since I am trying to get away from using plastic containers.
Anyway, the next day I took one of the jars out I had to pry the vacuum seal lid off as it had "popped" in the fridge over night.
Anyone had this happen? I don't think I would trust them on the shelf, but would be interesting if they were shelf stable.

Posted - Mar 31 2008 : 7:42:36 PM I have tried before. It is possible, but I didn't like the taste. Tastes cooked. I guess it would be good to use for baking or like that. I used to freeze goats milk when I had goats. It freezes better than cow milk in my opinion. But I gave up on canning milk. Some people do though. You have to water bath can it since milk is a high acid thing it dosn't have to be pressure canned..still..not my favorite.

Posted - Mar 31 2008 : 3:20:21 PM seems like it would, huh? I would think that less air getting to it would help. I am not 100% sure though.

Posted - Mar 31 2008 : 12:47:29 PM Aunt Jenny- That is what I though. It was so so weird to have to pop the seal to get to my food- Do you know if it "keeps" longer in the fridge if it makes a seal?

Posted - Mar 31 2008 : 12:30:39 PM Yep...just sealed up.NOt safe to store except in frdge though...not enough heat and all. It would have to be pressure canned to be safe.
