Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 11:40:54 AM I had a Martha Stewart set and the whole darn thing rusted and fell apart, so I sent it back to the company. I really like a good heavy steak knives, a paring knife, a bread knife and a good butcher knife. Can someone point me in the direction of something that last? Thanks.
Cheers, Heather

Posted - Mar 30 2008 : 05:23:47 AM I have one good knife. A Wustof Santoku Emeril. It isn't as fancy as the non-emeril one, but I do love it. Perhaps I will be able to acquire more Wustofs! It rocks.

Posted - Mar 29 2008 : 10:28:03 PM I have a real mish mash of different knives. I have a pampered chef Chef's knife that I love. Can't remember the name of it...sudoko or something like that (I don't think THAT is right..but something similar) But for paring and more often I use an old knife that was my grandmas..it is NOT stainless steel, not dishwasher safe, has an old wooden handle with no paint on it..probably never was painted. and will rust like crazy if not washed and dried after use..but I love it. It is sharp, fits my hand perfectly and I don't share it. Ever. It was hers from when she worked in vegetable packing sheds in Calif as a young woman.

Posted - Mar 27 2008 : 09:16:37 AM I've got Henkles too. Some were wedding presents. But I did buy a whole set at Costco a few years ago. $169ish and I think there were 10 - 12 knives (paring to clever) plus the block. The other thing I like about Henkles is they honor their garuntee without question. I had one where the tip broke after about 10 years of hard use. Actually I dropped it and the tip snapped off. I contacted them, sent it in and got a brand new one back. It did take many weeks, but well worth it when you get a brand new shiney $60 kinfe in the mail for free. |

Posted - Mar 27 2008 : 07:36:41 AM I'm a Henckels fan. I've gone through a long succession of knife sets, and these are by far the best and longest-lasting set I've had. They're expensive, but they're cheaper than getting a new set every year! I'm surprised the Martha Stewart knives didn't last. I usually have good luck with that brand. |

Posted - Mar 21 2008 : 08:58:25 AM I have Cutco too. Only because I made the mistake of working in their student sales program during one Christmas break in college (I found out that I am not cut out to be a sales rep!) That was 10 years ago, and the knives are still in fine shape. |

Posted - Mar 21 2008 : 06:06:37 AM I use Chef Cutlery. It's a knife set I've had for nearly ten years that I got back when I was in culinary school. I love the knives...ten years later, they're still awesome!

Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 11:55:57 AM I have a pampered chef paring knife that you sharpen as you pull it out of the sleeve, I love it! It is adequate to what I need.
Otherwise it is Chicago Cutlery, and they aren't that great.

Posted - Mar 20 2008 : 11:50:34 AM Well, I have a mix...Henckel from when I first got married and Sabatier from when I worked at Macy's in the Homestore (hefty discount!!!)...and they ain't cheap, but they're quality knives and I cook every night so I need something to keep up with me. I take care in how I wash them, though...I don't use a dishwasher and I dry my blades on a linen towel and never store them in a drainer.
