Homogenization is the process by which natural fat globules in milk are forcibly broken up by mechanical means. This allows an enzyme associated with milk fat, known as xanthine oxidase, to become free and penetrate the intestinal wall. Once xanthine oxidase gets through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream, it is capable of creating scar damage to the heart and arteries, which in turn may stimulate the body to release cholesterol into the blood in an attempt to lay a protective fatty material on the scarred areas. This can lead to arteriosclerosis. It should be noted that this effect is not a problem with natural (non-homogenized) cow milk, and goat milk is naturally homogenized, so it doesn't separate.

I've finally found an organic, non-homogenized (cow) milk, and we're switching for good! Organic Valley offers it, but we're getting it from Farmer's All Natural Creamery (http://www.farmersallnaturalcreamery.com), a little closer to home.

Just dried Mona up until she calves..which will be a long wait this year since she got bred late...so I am going to for sure be looking for that milk. I hate to buy store milk, but want to at least get GOOD milk when I do. We use at least a gallon a day..ugh. Thanks for the links!
Sharon...I used to get Straus milk when I lived in CAlif. They had it at New Horizons and other whole foods type stores..sold in glass bottles that you pay a deposit on...I still have alot of bottles! It is really good!! I bet they have it in SD somewhere.

"REAL" milk is the best. I love the cream on top too. My girlish figure is suffering though, so I use it sparingly =)

We live in North Ga. Where could I find raw milk...I have tried to get it from some farmers close that have cows but they are reluctant (sp) to let me buy any....Milk from the grocery always made my stomach hurt and I dont care much for soy...havent tried goat milk yet.

we have moved to our farm...and love it

We continue to support the dairy industry through our bad bad ice cream addiction.

After reading the blurb, I'm glad we drink almond milk. Have been for nearly 5 years now.

Can't stand the sour smell at the last few drops left in a glass

Hi Sharon,
Not sure where you are in CA, but you might try Straus Family Creamery (http://www.strausfamilycreamery.com) - they have organic non-homogenized milk!

Just checked the Organic Valley site and unlucky for us, the non-homogenized milk is only available in the Northwest region. I'll keep looking! Very good information and thanks for sharing!

This is why I keep my own goats *U*
I also get milk from a woman who has a cow nearby. I love scooping off the cream for my coffee in the morning *U*
We love milk. We love it raw.

I know, Alee - so good! I love to the creamy top!
I go through dairy phases too...as soon as it gets warmer, I'll probably go into an "off" phase again.

I love the non-homogenized milk! Yummy! Also known as "Cream on Top" milk. I am trying to reduce my dairy intake (well, really I am trying to go vegan, but sometimes I need a nibble or two of cheese). I used to drink as much as a gallon of milk a day. I would crave it so bad!

Have you ever noticed how richer and creamier "real" milk (aka Organic and non-homogenized) is? Yumm...

I have been buying organic milk for Nora to drink. It is a little more expensive, but I have seen prices go up so much more at the conventional grocery store and prices at our food co-op stay about the same.

Just found this - Organic Valley is such a cool company!

"Our vision is regional—regional organic dairy. Supporting organic dairy farmers regionally gives our customers the delicious, high-quality, fresh product they enjoy. Regional production builds local economy and allows rural communities to protect the environment in which their children are raised. Organic dairy farmers do not use any chemical pesticides or fertilizers on their land. This protects our soil, water and air resources and also protects the health of wildlife and people."
Look up your region:
