Or, what do you use for fermenting veges and fruits...I'm planning on making Blackberry Cordial this year for gifts (and ahem, for personal consumption  ) and the recipe calls for a large crock....
I've seen them in antique stores, but they're a might bit pricey and I'm not sure I'd want the former flavors to enhance my cordial...
Any suggestions or tried and true methods?

Well Jonni, I refuse to be outdressed... I will have on my TSC knock off baby blue wellies with goat poop, my Carhartt farm jacket( with goat hoof marks) & hat to match, & to truly set the outfit over the top, my bright blue embroidered apron filled with clothespins to make my already chubby belly appear even fuller. Farm fashion at its finest. |

Well, that too, could cause the strangulation and broken neck that poor Isadora suffered when sporting about town--her pretty scarf got tangles in the spokes of the wheel and WHAMMO, snapped her neck right into.
Maybe if we're sitting up high enough, that won't be a problem
So, Jackie O glass, Isadora Scarf and my Hunter Wellingtons on the John Deere. It's a date!

Well, Lisa, as you know, I try to stay out of Adams County as much as possible--especially West Union :). I think I might have found an even better option through Crate and Barrel. They carry thick glass lidded jars made by a US company that has made them since 1940. They have three different sizes, (I'm making at least 2 gallons), and they're only $19.00!!!

I think Adams Cty Dept Store has them. Also the guy with the antiques that I mentioned in Adams Cty probably has some too. |

Great! I'll get on Lehmans' site and the others mentioned. I'm thinking that it will be useful for other things, but if the cordial comes out, then it will be a standard summer project. This cookbook I bought has been SUCH a source of inspiration--it's called Prairi Home Cooking, and has a recipe for elderflower cordial, too, which I had a lot of in England.
Oh, Jenny! I think of that so much! Poor Anne, she was trying so hard to be a lady, wasn't she?!

I would try Lehmans for sure. Maybe Cumberland Gap. They both have websites. I have a big old 5 gallon one that I have had for about 25 years. It IS old though..was old then...and I WOULD use it for pickles, but use it for storing wool for rug hooking instead.
Blackberry cordial...how fun..but be careful...you know what happened to Diana in Anne of Green Gables..heehee
