Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 9:17:12 PM Whoever posted the pie crust that their Grandma made with lard, I thank you, my family thanks you & anyone else who eats them thanks you!!!
I bought some pig fat at the butchers a few weeks before Thanksgiving & rendered & froze it in 2# bags. I modified the posted recipe to be: 2# lard (give or take a little) 12 cups flour 2 tablespoons salt 1/4 cup sugar 2 beaten eggs enough cold water to make a good dough
We have used it cold, room temp or even overworked and it is the best we've ever eaten.
Tonight was chicken pot pies. Of course with all that dough there was enough for 2 of them, a blackberry/raspberry & a apple. Our 12 year old wanted to eat a entire pie.
Thanks again. I'll NEVER make a pie crust any other way!!!!
