Posted - Dec 12 2007 : 07:54:45 AM Grace - Apple-pear sauce? My mouth is WATERING. I usually make pear honey, but now I think I'll be trying apple-pear instead (or in addition too) I think my neighbors would revolt if I stopped bringing pear honey. :o)

Posted - Dec 03 2007 : 12:52:53 PM Diane, if you make your own apple sauce try halving the receipe to 1/2 apples & 1/2 pears....my family loves it when I make apple~pear sauce.(which isn't often enough these days). tata-4-now

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 1:07:54 PM That sounds like a great way too Wilma. I honestly couldn't tell you what kind of apple trees I have here. They are very old and were on the property when we moved here. One day I will take a couple to an expert and find out exactly what they are. They sure do taste and process well though. Di |

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 12:54:22 PM Diane, I freeze lots of apples, I peel, rinse and then put in a large kettle of hot water with salt. I let the peices get hot and then drain and put into containers. The reason I get them hot is we love fried apples and a quart bag doesnt hold very many sliced ones so by getting them hot you can get lots more in the bag. I never have brown apples. To can I do the same way, pack into qt jars then make a syrup of 1 cup susar 1cup water pour over apples put lids on place in pressure canner and get to 5 lbs pressure turn off Miss Wilma

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 11:37:43 AM I peeled and sliced mine into a bowl of cold water with lemon juice added (you can use a little vinegar instead if you wish). When I was all done, I just scooped them out of the water and into freezer bags and into the freezer. I had almost no browning of them doing it this way. I froze enough in bags for a pie, but I could also use them for simmering down into apple sauce. Super simple and worked really well for me.
