I wonder what they are pumping into the turkeys that we eat? For the last many years one or more of my family has gotten ill from eating store bought turkey. I am concerned and that is why I want to raise my own. At least I know what they are eating and no harmful chemicals.
I'm grumbling because this is the second year in a row that I have come down with a flu-ish thing after Thanksgiving...

We were extravagant this Thanksgiving and purchased a big organically-raised turkey from a local farmer. There was no comparison to storebought, quite amazing actually, the difference in flavor and texture...and, no one got the after-dinner bloated and tired feeling we normally all do. I will never eat another storebought turkey and I too plan on raising a dozen or so this coming year along with our meatbirds.

Annika - I had the same thing happen to me four years in a row when I was in my twenties. I finally discovered it was the oyster dressing that I was eating with the turkey that made me sick. Fluish- just like you mentioned. Now I never eat oysters.

UGG! I never thought of that ! D'OH!!!!
I'm gonna raise the little gobblers anyhoo, even if I can't eat them. I'm hoping that a turkey tractor range life and organic diet/living will render them edible to those of us that have a problem with the meat. Darn! I love turkey, I hope it'd just a reaction to something that they get dosed with
Sorry, benedryl makes me silly as a goose.

Wishing you joy in small things and peace in your heart

Are you possibly allergic to turkey? My cousin got sick every thanksgiving and eventually found out she had an allergy to something in turkey!
