Anyone have any good ideas how I can add ground flax seed to my diet? I don't eat much bread or baked goodies, and am not a smoothie fan. What else could I mix it into? Thanks!

Don't know about ground flax seed, but you can make homemade muesli with whole flax seed. Just take uncooked old fashioned oatmeal, dried fruits of your choice, and nuts and seeds of your choice (including flax seed) and mix together. Serve with milk or yogurt.

Thanks for the great ideas ladies! I was thinking along these lines, but was unsure about the texture...looks like a bag of powdery stuff to me! LOL I'll give it a whirl.

I've been adding it to everything. Yogurt, sweet potatoes, hamburgers, etc.

And for you flax fanatics...... linen fabric is actually from the flax plant, so short of hemp, you can't beat this wonderful plant.

I eat flax in ice cream in the evenings and my a.m. protein shake. (its not a smoothie) So I'm getting about 1/8 cup twice a day

Target's line of organic blueberry flax granola is fantastic...but high in carbs if you aren't very active.

It does wonders for regularity too I can tell if I miss a portion and will often pack a zip lock to take on trips.

i just posted a flax muffin recipe the other ay, but you can put flax in anything, really, and i do. sauces, cereals, icecream treats, mixsome with the crunchies you would sprinkle. into apple sauce, or soup ( a thicker soup is better), and on and on...

This recipe is from Prevention magazine. The women @ Bible study have always loved this, even my husband loves the flavor.

Orange Bran Flax Muffins

1 1/2 cups oat bran
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup flax seeds, ground
1 cup wheat bran
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 oranges, quartered and seeded
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup canola oil
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 cups golden raisins

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
Line two 12-cup muffin pans with paper liners, or coat with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine oat bran, flour, flaxseed, wheat bran, baking powder and salt.
Set aside.

2. In a blender of food processor, combine oranges, brown sugar, buttermilk, oil, eggs, and baking soda.
Blend well.

3. Pour orange mixture into dry ingredients.
Mix until well blended.
Stir in raisins.

4. Divide batter evenly among muffin cups.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool in pans for 5 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.

Makes 24 muffins

I do all the things that Shirley said...well except for the juice thing...can't get past that texture! But I stir it into oatmeal, I've sprinkled it on a banana and in yogurt. Heck, I've even sprinkled it on baked squash.
Just don't forget to store it in your frig or freezer. The healthy oils in ground flax seed go rancid really quickly.
