In early Sept - during a really hot spell - my fridge/freezer was having problems. Not so bad that things spoiled. Several bags of berries thawed a little then re-froze when the fridge was fixed. Now they are giant chunks 'O Berries.

If I thaw them out can I still make jam from them or are they too watery? Any speical tricks I should know about? I know there are many canning wizards here to give me advice so I don't have to throw the berries out. Thanks gurlz.

Well - you gals were right. My frozen berries didn't affect the jam at all. I was finally able to make jam yesterday and it turned out great. In fact, DD thought it was so good we had it with cornbread that night.

Thanks All,

Jenn

Levisgrammy I am sooo jealous. I haven't had venison since my divorce. My FIL was the hunter and a superb cook with wild game. I really miss it.

BTW - we are all fine here. Just getting a lot of smoke from the fires.

I need to clean out the freezer so I am going to make some of those berries into jam. thanks for the info.
Husband got a six point buck on Saturday so I need freezer space. We were going to process ourselves but it is not cold enough and I don't have the space to keep it cool for a week before doing it. Maybe the next one.

Jennifer,
hope all is well in your neck of the woods.
Our son-in-law & my DH business partner told us about the Santa Anas & fires.
We head Santa Roasa Valley is a hot spot.
My son-in-laws Pre-school/church in Malibu burnt down. How sad.
Stay safe.

Thanks Sue. I was hoping it would be that simple.

I had planned to try and can today, but mother nature had other ideas. I awoke at about 3am to howelling winds (typical for this time of year), but to make it even worse there are 3 wildfires in our area and it is so smokey that I didn't want that to affect the jam. So, I'll have to wait until next weekend.

Thanks again for the advice.

Jennifer, I have made jam from a couple of bags that did the same thing in my freezer. I just thawed them and followed the recipe on the sure jell for making the kind of jam that the berries were. The jam turned out fine.
I had nice twinkle lights on that got wet and popped a breaker for the freezer. It was an exciting moment for a bit there but didn't lose anything....
Good luck.
