Posted - Oct 07 2007 : 9:19:18 PM I'm trying to help a friend find a recipe for what her mother called "long tongue pickles". She said that they where long spears of cucumbers and that they turned brown in the jar.She also said that they were spicy. We think that they might have had cloves in them. She comes from Vermont and they might be a special kind for that part of the country. |

Posted - Oct 10 2007 : 07:22:59 AM i have to say that even though its made with cukes, the name would turn me sour on trying this pickle... and especially the fact that they turn brown in the jar... YUCK! but, i'm a little squeemish anyway... here's a recipe i found by googling "long tongue pickles", perhaps this is the one!

Posted - Oct 09 2007 : 9:25:54 PM Jana, here is another new kind of pickle for you. I was in Utah last month and saw some pickled carrots. The jar lable said that there was dill, garlic, and jalapeno peppers plus vinegar, salt and water along with the carrots cut into spears.. So today I picked some of my daughters carrots and made these. I followed my dill recipe. They won't be ready for a month. I'm looking forward to trying them. I hope they are not too hot. |

Posted - Oct 09 2007 : 7:13:01 PM Elinor, they sound yummy. Perhaps they are more of a sweet pickle made with cloves much the way peach pickles are made. Hmmmm. I have to check this out. I love to make pickles and am always up for something new! I'm in Wisconsin and of Volga German descent and we do LOTS of pickles but I've never heard of this one.
