This is my BEST idea EVER!! And it works like a charm!! This is definitely the time of year for fruit flies, with all the fruits and veggies ready for harvest/all the canning going on. Some days we seem to have flocks of fruit flies! So the great idea is this. Take a chick waterer (I guess I'm assuming you have chickens!), the little kind you use when they're really young. Put a piece of fruit inside and screw on a mason jar, and voila! There's your trap! The fruitflies crawl in the little opening and then get "stuck" in the canning jar as their natural tendency is to fly upward. To then clear out the trap, I just take it outdoors with a cup of soapy water in the other hand, unscrew the botton, and quickly pour the soapy water in. The fruitflies are history. Then screw the jar on and your trap is reassembled! Hooray!!
