Maybe I'm just lazy? I have my little chicken hutch backed up against the kitchen window. This way, all I need to do to collect eggs from my four laying hens is open the window, slide the back egg hutch open, and collect them in my bathrobe. The dogs also love smelling chicken butts from inside the house. I guess life takes all kinds huh?

That is a cute idea.
Faith: We turned a room in one of the barns into a chicken coop. It was open on both ends and we covered those ends with a double layer of chicken wire to keep critters out. In the winter my husband screws fiberglass panels over the wire and the gate. We live in snow country and that keeps the chickens warm enough. Of course there is straw on the ground and that also serves an an insulator. I lost all of my chickens one year (to a neighbors dog) and had to buy eggs. I could hardly wait for spring when I could order some new chicks. There is no comparison to farm fresh.

OH MY GOSH I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

How funny. With only 4 chickens I don't imagine you have too much mess or odor, now if you had say 100 chickens there it might not work so well. How awesome is that!!

Jenna! That's great!
Nice to see another Sandpoint resident here!
Are you in town or out of town?
Hubby's been talking about setting up a chicken coop...I'm thinking I'll take him up on that soon, even though we're in town.
Do you have heaters and stuff set up for your chickens during the winter?

I love that you even decorated the window to match! It's all about the decor for me. So I guess you don't get any bad odor in the house from this?
Wonder if the chickens are jealous that the dogs get to be inside and they are still out? Although it looks like they are pretty darn close to being right on the kitchen counter! Cute idea.

Jenna, you are one hilarous (and definitely, NOT lazy) Farmgirl! I think you truly live by the "Work Smart, not Hard" motto! Lazy would be letting the chickens live and lay their eggs in the frying pan, on the kitchen counter!

Do let us in on some of your other neat ideas; surely you've got dozens more!

Jenna, How funny! I have to say that in our current heatwave, it would be wonderful to have the chickens pulled up to a window so airconditioning could reach them! My DH actually talks about installing an old unit in the coop for our "girls and boys". The oldtimers around who hear him look somewhat amused!

Jenna, you are to darn cute! Love your idea of getting fresh eggs each day! I will be thinking of you when this city girl needs to go to the store because I ran out of eggs! What a hoot!
