We have started to keep leftover bacon grease from breakfasts to use instead of oil when frying certain things (trying to be thrifty) and we are pouring it into a glass mason jar, letting it cool, then sticking it in the fridge. Is this a good way to store it; we don't want it to spoil. I've also seen "lard cans" in catalogs just for this purpose, so I'm wondering if should buy one.

Yum, bacon grease on biscuits...have to remember to try that!

I store it in anything I get my hands on, plastic (when cooled) or china bowls or mugs or glass bowls with plastic lids...we use it to flavor grean beans and sometimes I add a dollop to a big batch of homemade veggie soup. I've used it on dog kibble, too! All great ideas!

Girls I use it all the time, for chicken, eggs, veggies, {note to self, try it on biscuits}, my Grandmother used it all the time too and she lived to the ripe ole age of 87.......

Hey Brenda! I have that very one! It was my grandmothers--actually, I have the whole set of cannisters, including the cake. It's made by Kromex.

I don't use it for grease though, because it's too deep and we simply get enough bacon grease for a mug's worth!

My mom used to have a canister in the kitchen, stainless steel, or maybe aluminum, with a black plastic (or bakelite?) top, that said GREASE spelled out in white letters on it. She kept it by the stove. It had a little sieve built into the top to catch the "crunchies".

I use my bacon grease to fry my tortillas when making tacos. It really makes the tacos crisp and tasty. Also, try adding a can of chile con carnie to your meat mixture.

I use the left over bacon grease to flavor my dogs dry food...they love it...it makes their coats healthy, and saves me lots of money on canned food ( before using the bacon grease for this I use to mix a bit of canned in to add moisture to the dry)

There isn't anything much better than fresh green beans fixed with some bacon drippins'. It has to be one of our favorites here.

And we also make popcorn with bacon grease.

Aunt Jenny--definitely bacon grease for sunny side up eggs! You can't get crispy edges any other way! I also use a dollop in all my different beans, and I melt some almost every night to pour over the dogs dry kibble. An aside, my husband had never seen anyone save their bacon grease, so when he moved in after we married, he was sooo excited! He actually "sautes" his Totino's Pizza Rolls in bacon grease as opposed to baking them. Heart attack on a plate, but boy are they good on a late night, watching the tv!

My grandmother taught me to make bisquits and just before you pop them in the oven you put a small teaspoon of bacon greece on the top of each bisquit. Yum Yum

Oh good, so it looks like mine will do just fine. We almost have a full quart jar! Does it ever expire though? And if I freeze it, how long will that keep?

I keep some in a pint canning jar in the fridge. Eggs taste better fried in bacon grease for sure.

I am not going to make any comments about the health issues regarding bacon grease. My grandma used bacon grease in EVERYTHING - her fried potatoes were actually floating in it. And she was healthy up until she was killed in a house fire at the age of 88.

I too have saved bacon grease in my fridge. It keeps just fine and you can even freeze it if you have too much. I know this might not fly with some of you but I use a big tablespoon or two in a pot of vegetables, peas, corn, butterbeans, potatoes, etc. I freeze alot of fresh vegetables and cook them later with bacon grease for seasoning. It is wonderful. I don't do this everyday but occasionally. One more thing, fry chicken in bacon grease and you won't believe how good it turns out. I rarely fry anything but a couple times a year I do fry chicken and with bacon grease if I have it.

Mom used to use coffee cans, we use a mug that broke it's handle--ok, I broke it's handle. Doesn't have to be fancy, just holds the grease ;)

The glass jar should be just fine. We use an old peanut can or small coffee can, anything like that and put it in the fridge.
