Thanks Sherri - the info you gave me is probably enough to find it...

I wish I had one. I would love to put one in my family room to replace the franklin stove in there. It would be more efficient and I could cook with it too.

I have a book called Wood Stove Cookery that you can order through Countryside Magazine or Mother Earth News. It's a great resource - tells about how best to operate the stove, different kinds of firewood, and lots of recipes. I would tell you the author but it is over at the cabin and I'm in washington right now!

I have one. We moved however and there just isn't a good spot in the new house to put it. I loved it. I could always have a tea pot of water hot and ready. The funniest thing to me was the oven thermometer. It read warm, med, hot, very hot. LOL It definately takes some practice to cook on it but it sure was fun. That and having the stove top to keep things warm ready for the table was so nice! Also my kitchen stove at the time was kind of small so the extra cooking space was great, especially at Thanksgiving when you need the oven for about 10 things all at the same time! Not to mention our dining room used to be a porch so the cook stove really helped heat it in the winter time!

I have one but we just got it and it needs cleaning and some minor repairs. Plus we'll need to build an area to stick it. But I'm looking for some good cookbooks about cooking with one, if anyone finds any! I have access to some pretty decent used bookstores, so if you have a title and approximate year of publication, I can probably find it.

We have a wood cook stove in our house in Montana. That is all we use for cooking and heat. In the summer we try and use the BBQ outside so we don't heat the house up for just about about everything - it has a side burner on it. I love cooking on and baking in my wood stove. You can have several different things going at once on the top of the stove, all at diffeent temps. The oven took a bit of practice when we first started using it because you need to switch whatever you're baking around in the middle of baking it so the side towards the firebox doesn't get too dark. Everything tastes better with a wood stove for some reason.

Hi Dennis,
We had one when I was little, I always loved being in the kitchen in the winter, I think we all did.
It helped heat the house in the winter, as the furnace only kept it bearable.
My mother is one of those people who could make a feast from a dab of this and dab of that, so she was great at cooking with it.
I never got a chance to cook much on myself.
I secretly wish I could get one again.
