Does making soap in the kitchen qualify?
I made the yummiest soaps today- double batches to last a year, just in case life gets too busy when the other two children we are adopting come.
I made a Kefir Smoothie soap, and then a huge batch of Creamy Soiced Pear (made with raw goat milk).
The house smells fabulous!

I agree Elizabeth.
As for bringing home the children...my husband is hoping to leave in 3 weeks to go get them or at least expedite the LONG process that has been longer than neccessary. If he doesn't get to go, then our best friends who are going will maybe be able to bring them back.

Well I think it would count since it is made in the kitchen and it is a foody scent. Congrats on your batch and on your growing family. How lucky for you to have found each other.
A good soap recipe do not need to be kept "fresh". If you see DOS (dreaded orange spots) or it starts to smell like old oil... there is no saving it. Certain oils will make it go bad quickly such as hempseed and some nut oils. I really dont put a lot of value in soap books. Even if the author submitted the correct info, a lot of time the publisher will make "changes" under the umbrella of liability. Especially with the use of essential oils. So, personally the best place to find info is an active soapmakers forum with lots of members.

How blessed these children will be coming to a safe, loving home. You must have a big heart and also some courage too to open your arms to these children. We just do not realize how the rest of the world lives and no amount of CNN will really give you the full impact of a country in civil war. It is just hard to comprehend. I am sure that you are both excited and aprehensive about your new family coming. Do you have to go over and bring them back with you or do they travel with a chaperone? Angie.

TO be honest I don't think you need to "Keep them fresh" at all! But the latest book I read on soapmaking suggested it and I thought I'd experiment.
Homemade soap never lasts long around here anyway.
I have two more Liberian children coming thi summer. We have one, a 10 year old girl now, and the others are a 15 year old girl and 14 year old boy. That country is like the worst of 3rd world countries. It's bad! After a long and terrible civil war the population is over 50% children, and many, many, of them orphaned.

Dalyn, the soap sounds delicious! How do you keep it 'fresh' or do you need to? I do not make my own but love to buy home-made soap when out and about. I have them in a lovely old Pirex casserole dish by the sink in the kitchen. They look so pretty all piled up and I love to use a different one each time. I would love to hear about your 2 new 'additions' who are coming. Please tell more!Angie.
