I started a Hunter's Safety course with my 11-year-old son last week, and it's fascinating. The laws, the guns, the ethics - there's a TON to know. Gone are the days when students are just told to point the gun away from people and keep fingers away from the trigger.

I've already learned about bag limits, possession limits, kinds of guns, reading bullets and gun barrels, the mechanics of bullets, and the importance of the hunter's image to Joe Public.

I'll admit I doubt I'll ever actually go hunting, but I might be interested in some target practicing or trap shooting.

And here's a shout out to the people who teach these classes. They are all dedicated sportsmen who volunteer their time to teach this critical course on firearm safety!!

My boyfriend was a hunter ed instruction for over 30 years and still has people come up to him and thank him for the training he provided them years ago.

Oh, Denise! That's something I've wanted to do for years! Our local hunter's safety courses have filled up so quickly that we've always missed out on them... I am so excited for you that you're getting to do it! I think it's definitely a skill everyone should have! You GO farmgirl! Hugs - Nini
