I just saw a promotional video for Wyoming Public TV's upcoming special on the Lincoln Highway. Which got me thinking....

My hometown was smack dab right on the Lincoln Highway. I wonder how many other farmgirls are also close to it? Wouldn't it be a cool road trip to glamp the Lincoln Highway?

Or to have a coast-to-coast farmgirl glamp-out across the Lincoln Highway? There is a coast-to-coast garage sale along the highway in August every year.

Anyone else out there?

I was driving on the Licoln Highway on Saturday as I went through Coalville, UT. It is soooo fun to get off the freeway and just look around!

I live in oregon, Illinois (I know, make up my mind) and the Lincoln Highway is about 10 miles south of me goes thru Franklin Grove and Rochelle...don't know if it goes thru Springfield or not. Oregon is in north/northwest Illinois. Springfield is in south/central part of Illinois.

I grew up in Springfield Illinois, in the Land of Lincoln. Does the Lincoln Highway go near there? I never knew about it if it did.

I am doubly blessed because not only does the Lincoln Highway come through my town, I have worked my whole career in the automotive industry, as have many in my rural location.

A few years ago the Fisher Body Stamping plant in Mansfield, Ohio, my hometown, was closed. It was opened in 1956, the year I was born, and they announced it would be shut down in 2009, the year I moved to Detroit metropolitan area. I started working at the plant in 1979 and I was there until 2009 when the closing was announced.

For me this was a wrenching personal decision, as my family was very local in the Mansfield area. Because modern technology allows us to stay close even though we are geographically distant, I decided to move to Detroit.

I don't know if there is a relationship between the Carl Fisher who envisioned the Lincoln Highway, and the Fisher brothers who were instrumental in the body styling of General Motors cars (I really need to research that) but it is ironic for me that the factory where I worked most of my career is directly located on the Lincoln Highway in Mansfield.

The Lincoln Highway is a critical point in the history of the USA. Without it, there would have not been the expansion of the auto industry and the Dwight Eisenhower freeway system, which opened up the USA to travel and tourism. (See the USA, in your Chevrolet..)

Whatever your political view, they have been influenced by the automotive industry in the USA. I am still coming to terms with it, as I am sure other thoughtful persons are.

We live just a few miles from the Lincoln highway. There was a pbs special that featured our city. We have two motor courts in our county. We are very blessed.

We live less than a minute from the Lincoln Highway! It runs right through our town, too!

Here are a couple of neat websites you girls might enjoy:

There was a mini documentary about the local portion of the Lincoln Highway on television a few years ago... I'm going to have to try and find it for you... It was a big anniversary celebration of some sort. I remember there were some cool articles in the newspaper as well. I'll let you know if I find them!

And Brenda - I love your idea!!! I think that a Farmgirl glamping trip down the Lincoln Highway would be AWESOME! I'd really have to convince my hubby to get me a glamper if we do!!! :)

Hugs -

Unfortunately, I'm quite a distance from the Lincoln Hwy. I'm waaaaay down in the southwest corner of Colorado. It does dip down to Denver, but I'm 400 miles, one way, from Denver.
It would be a great thing to attempt to do.

What a coincidence, the Lincoln Highway runs right through my town! There are many tour groups that come through town following the highway each summer. It would be really neat to see a group of glampers come through, too!
