On Sunday, after a good rain on Friday, we got to Dutch oven dinner. I have been wanting to cook outside all spring, but it has been too dry to start a fire. It was so nice just sitting around the fire, tending the Dutch ovens. The wind was a little too strong, so DH put our old 50's metal lawn chairs on their sides as a wind screen, that worked great. We had pork roast with potatoes, carrots, and onions, baking powder biscuits, and a blackberry cobber.

Greetings from the morning side of the hill.

We camped with DAISY scouts this past weekend! It was the first real campout for these sweet little five and six year olds, and we spent a great deal of the time either preparing, cooking, eating or cleaning up our meals. The leader's classic cinnamon sugar "monkey bread" made in the dutch oven was the star of the show for breakfast - yum! I would oh-so-highly recommend using the wax paper Dutch oven liners for a very sticky dish like this.

Wish you all could be here to have a Dutch oven meal. I cooked again yesterday for Mother's Day. It will probably be the last of the season, it is already starting to dry up here. I don't dare start a fire outside after about the 1st of June. W had pork roast cooked with plum jam and beer. It was good, but a little done. The hot rolls tho, were perfect. I only used two ovens, the time before I used 3. My daughter bought a shallow 14 inch at a thrift store, it is in wonderful shape, seasoned really nice. It was just the right size for hot rolls for 12.
In Boise a couple of weeks ago I saw a flat bed pickup pulling a real chuck wagon on a trailer. I was so excited, I would have followed them, but I was in the wrong lane on a very busy road. It looked like an old wagon, with bows and kitchen box and everything, but not the canvas cover. The pickup and the trailer were loaded with all the cooking and camping gear. Bet they were going somewhere fun.

Greetings from the morning side of the hill.

Hubby and I plan to invest in a really good tripod too. It's on the wish list.

Sounds wonderful! Did you make everything using the dutch ovens and over the fire?

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

Yum! Sounds delicious! So glad you got to enjoy the day outside by the fire.
