Hi Farmgirls,

My husband and I went on a guided petroglyph hike this morning. We hiked through a canyon in South Mountain Park, a very large, undeveloped park in Phoenix. We saw gorgeous ancient petroglyphs of animals, humans, and geometric figures, all accented by a stunning blue sky behind them and wildflowers in full bloom. We watched a coyote leap over the mountain boulders away from us. After the official hike was over, we decided to poke around and see if there were other petroglyphs in the area. There were....and there was also a rattle snake!! My husband startled a western diamond back who was shading himself under a bush. He rattled LOUDLY and slithered off one way, as my husband quickly rushed the other way. No one was hurt (!) and the snake "hide" under a rock; we watched him for a while and I since there was not contact, I felt lucky to have to opportunity to see one of nature's more elusive creatures. I will remember this hike for a very long time.

Thanks Kellie....it was a great day. Our family is pretty active and we hike a lot, so we tend to have some interesting encounters. I feel so lucky to have so much natural beauty near by.

Mary Beth, So glad that you got to roam around South Mountain. If you are in the area again, maybe we can meet?

It's time to be thinking about how I can glamp-out a tent....

Sounds like an awesome hike! Glad all ended well with your snake encounter - they're such amazing animals, but I sure wouldn't want to get tangled with one:)

We roamed all over South Mountain Park. Really a nice place. We were there a few weeks before all the wild flowers were out. But we saw some. MB

Laurie's hubby, Joe, deserves one of the Farmboys for Farmgirls awards.

My hubby, Bill, is on that list.
Robin's hubby, Jim, is on that list.

Hi Pam
Yes Spring has sprung here for sure! I am loving it!
Yes- I plan on heading out to Arizona to join you all again next March- so looking forward to it. I really enjoyed our afternoon together!
AND-
I am super duper excited because I am ALSO heading to IDAHO in June to meet up with CJ and Robin again at Kathy O'Hara's house for more glamping! I still cant believe I am actually going to get to go to IDAHO! I am truly Blessed! My husband is awesome for encouraging me to go, and supporting me- even taking time off from work to get the kids off to school etc.

Hugs,

~Laurie

Hi Laurie! So nice to connect with you! It was such a pleasure that we got to spend time together over tea. I can't wait until next year, and I see that you plan to come.

Is spring finally showing up in your part of the country?

Hi Pam!
Wow- sounds like you had a wonderful hike with an added surprise! I am very glad that no one crossed paths in a dangerous sense. How neat that you got to see the petroglyphs AND a rattler!

I also would like to say how glad I was to get to meet you at Robins house last month. I really enjoyed your company, and your displays of flowers and cookies was just beautiful!

Keep enjoying nature and stay safe!
Hugs,

~Laurie
