The leaves are just starting to turn on a few trees here. I sure hope hubby can hike a bit with me and collect leaves next weekend. I love to press them and send them to my Aunt in Florida. We use them to decorate the house too.

Anyone else enjoying fall hikes to collect leaves?

Well, I must be crazy to say there is no color on our property. I may not have a lot of red/orange trees turning, but I posted some pretty photos on my "pioneer" blog today.

Enjoy!

Such pretty pictures gals! Love Fall- and looking forward to doing some exploring this weekend as long as the weather cooperates. We are scheduled to go to Old Westbury Gardens, so I am anxious to see what colors have started there.
A few trees have just started to turn here on Long Island. This is definately my favorite time of year,as I love to go on nature walks and then come home and sit out around a campfire with a chill in the air....AHHHH

Marly, all the trees behind us and along the creek mostly turn brown, and have not spectacular color. I have to go out and about to see anything with color.

My ornamental apple tree turns red and that about the only color on our property. I hope to get some more hiking in next weekend. Hubby and I are due for an outing alone.

A couple more taken from the same spot. The first one was the scene to my left . . . .quakies (aspen) in gold. The second one is actually the same trees as in my first pic a few posts back but zoomed back for broader scene.
It was a gorgeous day!

Beautiful picture CJ. Down here in SW Louisiana, there isn't too much coloring of the leaves. My hubby and I went up to Vermont as Leaf Peepers. That was absolutely beautiful.

I LOVE fall and I LOVE hiking so am trying to do as much of both as possible!!! I lead a women's Meetup.com walking and hiking group in the Spokane/CdA area. We walk Wednesday evenings (now in the dark) but always do a hike on Thursday mornings. I'm kind of hoping we can go up to Mount Spokane this next week. There should be some beautifully colored undergrowth and the Western Larches are spectacular when they turn gold in the fall!

Yesterday, late afternoon, we hiked around Tubbs Hill in CdA. Very dry and not a lot of color yet but still beautiful. Next weekend I'm going with another group that is heading two hours north to hike along Sullivan Lake and the weekend after, we're taking our bikes east of CdA and Fourth of July Pass, to ride the Trail of the CdA's. As much as we need rain, I hope it doesn't rain on any of these days!

I wish fall lasted at least six months a year! It's by far my favorite season!

In Florida, any deciduous trees don't turn until November or December. We have trees that do turn pretty colors but there are not as many of them as further north. With temperatures still in the upper 80s and low 90s, the trees don't get the cool nights needed to start colors. Usually about the time everyone is buying a Christmas tree, the tress that do turn colors do so at that time. It sort of gets lost in the flurry of December and the come January, things start to move towards Spring. Those of you who have real fall, are quite lucky!!

We love hiking this time of year, too. We live near Bushy Run Battlefield (www.bushyrunbattlefield.com), and one of our favorite things to do in the fall is to hike their Indian trails and take in all the nature. The colors are just breathtaking. I just love how the deeper you go into the woods, the more silent and peaceful the world becomes. Sometimes it just gives me chills how quiet it can be. I love the the smell of the woods, too... and to catch glimpses of the wildlife in their natural habitat - simply just a wonder to behold! 'Makes me feel like a little girl again, when I used to dream of being Laura Ingalls in her "Little House in the Big Woods," you know? Love, love, love it!

I don't get that pretty, or variety out back, but at the park we camp at we do. I can't wait to take some photos. I had an oak tree planted at my first house, and can just imagine how pretty that is right now. I may have to plant one here, as one of our Ash trees need cut down.

LOVE "my mountains" in the fall! Well, I LOVE "my mountains" any time of the year! I love hiking them and know some of the trails quite well, some others I want to know better!

We took an excursion up the Dolores River into "my mountains" yesterday afternoon and I'm grateful it's not far.
Our Colorado Rocky mountains typically have spruce trees (can be more than one variety) and "quakies" (Aspens). We don't have trees that get the purples and deep reds, but the aspens do turn all shades of gold, orange and rust.

This is a pic I took yesterday with "rusty" aspen in the foreground, gold ones in the back and a spruce in the middle.
Thanks for letting me share!

Kristina,
We will be taking the dogs on a nice hike today, I hope to gather a few more black walnuts for my dye job.( my tree did not produce enough). The leaves are starting to get really pretty and the temps are at that most comfortable stage. You know when the air just smells so good, you want to be outside every min. you can!
Enjoy your walk!
