Ok, we were walking through RV's and trailers this past weekend and going back and forth with what we want. I think it has finally come down to the fact that we already own a Suburban for towing so the trailer makes more sense for us.
Here's the thing though. There are five of us. Our boys are 12, 10 and 8 and are not getting any smaller. So what is the smallest trailer that can sleep 5 people? For those of you that know more about trailers, what would your recommendations be for make/year, etc.?

We have a vintage trailer that is 16 ft, and has two beds and a bunk, so it can sleep 6. Many of them are this way. We are actually thinking of selling ours. I almost sold it last year, as I am in the process of refurbishing another one, but it is hard to let go of. It's totally re-done inside. |

pop is the smallest, however they come in all sizes as well, a suburbun, should be able to tow any pop up (they stay pretty light), a hybrid is great as well. If you want to keep cost down look on Craig's list there's TONS of pop ups on there! And in my area so much you can negotiate. They were asking it seems like 600 for the one I bought, and seems we paid 300....however, I also told them they could keep their toilet, and life jackets and such they were offering with it, and I did pay 50 dollars for their brand new fridge (at 600 the fridge came with it lol).

I Agree with most everyone has said her. You need to do some research on the internet for the right rv trailer for you. After you have done that, your list of amenities that you want. Don't forget to enter into the equation how much are you willing to spend for one. Talk to other owners that always helps a lot. |

What a good question Wendy... there are sooo many different styles, ahpes, size etc.
Keep in mind the type of camping you like to do... if you just want a place to sleep, maybe a 18ft - 20ft trailer would suite you, there are some that have twin bunkbeds, a sofa that pulls out to a bed & the banquette converts into a bed...so you could sleep 5 easy peasy.
If your tow vehicle has the ability to pull a larger trailer, maybe a 'Lite' weight 22-24ft trailer would give you more room... don't expect the bathroom to be heavy duty like your home,,, a potty is a potty but the bath/showers are ment for a really uber fast shower..... I use tha campground facilites for showers...but it is nice to have a potty for those late nite wee wee trips lol!
I luv vintage trailers and there are some really nice ones out there but keep in mind they have lots of years of wear & tear behind them... but are more cost effective.... Maybe a tent trailer might be right up your ally,,, ask friends, neighbors what they like & dislike about there RV...

This year I saw a hybrid trailer (so a combination of a pop up (we call them tent trailers here) and a more traditional RV, so it has the two wings (which are two of your beds), like in tent trailer, a couch, a dining set (which turns into a bed space) and a small, real kitchen (full size fridge, stove and also (love this feature a real washroom). I think they're a little cheaper than a true fifth wheel).

Oh, and we aren't against a vintage trailer at all. Do any of them have space for 5 though?
Oh goodness, I don't even know what amenities we would want/need. Can you tell we are just starting out with this. Feels a bit overwhelming!

I wish I could be more helpful to you but I'm not as familiar with the newer models as I am with vintage trailers. Though I would say maybe write a list of all the amenities you want it to have and than use that list to narrow down which make and model works best for you. Also I'm sure that some of the newer travel trailers are made better than others. So I would recommend research that as well.

We have a pop-up trailer that sleeps 5. 2 on each "wing" and our table folds down to accommodate 1 person. (1 queensize bed for dh & I and a double on the other - the table is a little bigger than a single) I'd love something a little bigger but we have no where to store it. So easy to tow too. Easy set up.
