Posted - Jun 03 2012 : 7:38:19 PM Finished our sign today . . used a piece of aluminum siding, baling wire, pop rivets, and some fun add-ons that Robin and I picked out together. The number at the bottom is a VERY SPECIAL "House" number just for Robin, (my daughter) and me. The Statue of Liberty was on the end of a New York license plate and I was so delighted to have it to add . . . just had to use that too! I think we'll probably add a big bow with some flower or ladybug print wide, wire-edge ribbon. So, this will "mark the spot" when we're out there in our glamping glory!!! YAY!!! CJ

Posted - Jun 05 2012 : 6:48:31 PM Winnie, To answer your question about where I got the plates. I had some that included NY, Texas, Colorado and Maine that a friend of ours gave us. I bartered here in Farmgirl Barter for some others, I begged off of my neighbors (we live in the country with great neighbors who have all kinds of non-running vehicles, etc) and I did have to buy a couple from an antique store. They weren't antique but had the letters I needed. That was a last resort as I just wasn't able to find the last TWO letters . . . except for the fact that the exact ones I needed were on plates on our vehicles! I told my hubby that the "R" I needed was on the plate on our van and the "G" I needed was on my car! But, alas and alack, I couldn't salvage those. I plan to try to make more fun signs and I'm going on a hunt for more plates . . . I need to go to the auto salvage yard but it's on the OTHER side of town and not on my way to anyplace. But I'll probably make a pilgrimage that was sometime. It CAN be a challenge, especially if you're looking for specific letters and/or numbers. CJ

Posted - Jun 05 2012 : 05:40:11 AM I'm glad my hubby suggested the siding . . . and I used pop rivets to attach the letters to it. It's all thin enough that screws wouldn't be good. I attached some of the "add-ons" with rivets and the bird and the ladybug with baling wire through holes and twisted on the back. I've partially finished a much smaller one that has our County Road number on it for our house to hang out by our mailbox. I'm also thinking of doing some for Robin and me that have our Sisterhood numbers on them . . . but that will come later. It is very weatherproof . . . that'll be good! Thanks girls! CJ

Posted - Jun 04 2012 : 10:54:15 PM Hey CeeJay, That is so way cute! I have a stash of lic.plates ready to be cut up...just haven't had time yet...but I did get my SOTF # done.
I think I will do one that says 'Cowgirl Glamping' with the letters that I have... I like that you used 'siding'..hmmm, maybe better than barn wood and much lighter!

Posted - Jun 04 2012 : 05:46:32 AM Very nice, CJ. So that is why you wanted all the license plates. Love the idea. I can see that the metal would be lighter than wood. Great looking!!!!! Love it.

Posted - Jun 04 2012 : 05:31:51 AM Thank you girls! Decided to go with the aluminum rather than wood as it is much lighter weight. The numbers at the bottom are riveted to the rest of one of the Colorado plates, that's been turned around so you see the front of that on the reverse side. And that piece is detachable, so if my daughter isn't with me I won't use it. CJ
