I am an avid Dutch Oven cook and belong to the International Dutch Oven Society. Any other farmgirls interested in this hobby?

The liners worked great! I'm only using them camping where washing is a little harder with no running water.

My husband I and purchsed one last year before we went camping.
It was a lot of fun using it!
The food tasted great.
I have not used it at home, mostly camping.
Would love to get more information!

I went out and bought the parchment liners, too. Also, found at WalMart. Can't wait to use them!!

Another pic of campfire cooking. Grace, I usually avoid aluminum, if possible, but it does a great job of keeping food from burning onto the pot. I also use a metal trivet on the bottom, under the foil- my dutch ovens aren't the kind w/ legs, so they sit right on the ashes. I haven't cooked w/ briquettes, but put the dutch ovens in a fire ring w/ burning wood. We heap burning ashes under, around, and on top of the lid. JoAnn, thanks for the tip about parchment liners! I never heard of them, but will see if I can find some. Sounds like a much better choice than aluminum foil!

When we were at the Mother Earth News Fair there was a demonstration of Dutch Oven Cooking and they were using liners in the pots. They are made of parchment. I think they are in the camping section of stores. JoAnn

Oh, Mary, I noticed, you lined your pan with foil... ???? is it to make clean-up easier or to be able to remove the food easier for serving?

Hmmm, foil,,,what a smart idea!

Oh Yum!
Do you need to put briquettes on top of the lid or just under? How many briquettes? or does it matter?

I know there is an 'art' to Dutch Oven cooking,,, some are so refined,,,right down to how many briquettes on top & underneath... But the end results are sooo worth it.

On my last Glamping trip, Heather made a D.O. dessert as well as breakfast.... Yummy is all I can say,,, well 'cept... "more please!"... lol!

Thanx for the easy peasy recipe.... :>)

Sherone, I make a breakfast casserole similar to your Wild Horse Potatoes, but w/ the addition of eggs. Your Caramel Dumplings sound delicious!

Wild Horse Potatoes (So named by my dad, Gary)

Throw 1 pound of bacon, cut into 1" pieces into the dutch oven. Throw 1 sliced onion in and cook until bacon is brown. Toss in about 12 potatoes, cleaned, unpeeled, and sliced. Salt and Pepper to taste. Cook until potatoes are tender. You must turn often. Optional: top with shredded cheese.

We do alot of Dutch Oven Cooking. Two years ago, I won a contest at the Bear River Mountain Man Rendezvous with my rendition of Caramel Dumplings. This weekend, Dutch Oven Chicken and Wild Horse Potatoes are on the menu. Yum, Yum.

Love Dutch ovens. Last month I cooked for the brandings at a big ranch for 5 days. Just lunches, cooked with the Dutch Ovens everyday. It was so fun. We had between 12 and 26 people. I even made homemade beef noodles. I rolled the noodles out with a whiskey bottle, cuz I couldn't find a rolling pin. The guys thought that was great. Always looking for new recipes.

Greetings from the morning side of the hill.

Sharon, every August the "Appolossa Museum" in Moscow Idaho has a 'Appy ride' fund raiser over in Deary ID...
The main event on Saturday nite, besides the Fiddlers is a Dutch Oven Cook-off.
OMG! from appetizers to main course to dessert, all done by Dutch Oven is amazing! They have it down to a science...exactly how many briquettes on top & bottom of the D.O. etc.... yet each year the food is awesome! I have not braved the D.O. cook-off....yet...but who knows, maybe this year?

I went to a "Women in the Outdoors" event and took the Dutch Oven Cooking class. We had 13 Dutch ovens going all at once on a bed of gravel. It was fun and interesting. We made the lunch for everyone. I got some fun recipes from this class and have used them in our backyard and when camping. Really awesome way to cook outdoors.
