don't know if it is global warming or what but I have never seen so many butterflies.
We,ve been camping for 3 weeks and they are everywhere. I usually see monarchs and swallowtails but in the past week I have seen some that are bright blue, bright red and an interesting black one. Guess I'll have to get a butterfly book

I help run a summer "service learning" program at my school - Butterfly Station, where we raise butterflies, maintain a butterfly garden, and give tours of them to the public, along with a butterfly museum, gift shop, and arts & crafts room. (BTW - I do the training, but middle school students run it with supervision).

Anyway, we had a monarch boom this year. In 13 years of doing this we have never had so many caterpillars and butterflies all at once. Lots of swallowtails as well.

I think it's just a really good year for them!

I've been noticing an exceptional amount of butterflies too - but thought it was just because of some new flowers that we put in this year. Perhaps it's not all about us - LOL!

a couple of weeks ago when camping we were fishing along the river and a huge cluster of butterflies were basking in the sun on the rocks... at least 50+ monarch's. Not sure if there was a little hanky panky going on as well, lol, but even the puppy sat mesmerized by them!
