We have been enjoying watching the Blue Herons mousing in the field...yes mousing. SO this morn one was right below the house. I watched as it stalked a vole. Wow do they have patience. They are just like a cat. Sit and wait and then crouch and wait and then Bam! Well he got one and it was big. He shook the dirt off and then took off with it in its bill. We figured he was heading for a nest. But he landed in the ditch, dipped it two are 3 times in the water, swished it around to either wash it off or wet it down and then swallowed it whole. Was that ever cool to watch.

We never seen them mouse until last year. It is pretty cool to watch. I think he swished it in the water to wet it down and make it easier to swallow. I am glad to see him eat voles instead of all my pond frogs!

We have Blue herons around here--their beaks are sharp! I didn't know they caught small animals like mice. that's neat that he washed it in the water before eating it.
