Hello Fellow Glamers...

I have an older travel trailer that desperately needs a new look. If you have painted the outside of your camper, would you mind sharing some tips, tricks, watch outs, or other suggestions for updating mine.

Thanks
Debi

Grace,
Your Scotty-dog is too cute!!!

Debi,
We used an alkyd enamel, semi-gloss to paint the exterior of our older model Apache popup camper. Coverage was excellent as we were using a lighter creamy/almond color to cover dark brown. Had the color mixed to a close match to that of our van. We painted the camper several years ago and it still looks good! And, like the other gals say, you have to do a really good prep job, which is actually the hardest part I think.

Debi,
for sure, like Diane said, clean the old paint down really good! or your new paint will peel/flake off....
I actually used buffing compound on my trailer before painting my 'dots' & my Scotty dog image.

Wash the trailer down really good, use a little bleach if there is powdery mildew on it. Remove any loose paint. I have had great success with Rustoleum paint. You can roll it or brush it. It levels out nice and it comes in lots of colors and finishes. I like the satin finish, not too shiny.

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

hey Debi,
check out Sisters on the Fly website....I know that this is a popular topic, also Tin Can Tourist & the NAtional Serro Scotty web site...tons of info.
Some gals use marine/auto paint.....some use house paint, but you have to do a really good prep job and put on several coats.
HAve fun & congrats on having a vintage trailer. I know I love mine.
