Darlene, we get 10-12 miles but ours is only 22 feet. The bigger the model the worse gas mileage. If you get a diesel you will get much better milage, up to 20 mpg. Also all of the new campers built on a Sprinter Chassie seem to get above 20 mpg, some claiming close to 30. You may spend in gas but you save by not paying for motels and food so in the end it is sometimes cheaper.

Sorry to say, Darlene, but you DH is right I am afraid. We tracked what mileage we were getting when we first go the Minnie Winnie, and It Ain't good!! About 8 miles to the gallon. So we just save up money for gas and go as far as half that money will take us, then we head home.

We pull the 30 foot 5th wheele with a discel. I do not know much about trucks but we average 10 to 12 miles with the camper. A smaller camper would do better. Lilly

How many miles do you get in your homes. I have wanted one for years and my husband always flips out because he said you only get about 8 mpg. Help tell me it's not true.

Well Bart not a motor homw but a 5th wheele DH and I just did a trip from home in Va to Washington state to Alaska and home once more. Now we will be gone again in Sept. for Boston Mass and NY city. love it Lilly

We'll finally be taking our 24' Minnie Winnie out for a spin the weekend after next. We usually get in many more trips before this but I guess after DH lived in it all but a month last year, he needed a break. We love our MH, it's just the right size to have all the amenities yet small enough to get into the even the littlest camp site. They make a great home away from home.

Yep, we do!!
Sis and I had a vintage glamper and loved it but MOm always wanted to come along and there just wasn't room. So last year we bought a 32 ft 1987 Winnebago together. We have been having tons of fun. i do all the cooking, my sis does the mechanical stuff and Mom just shows up....with her clothes and her knitting. She is 83 and in good health and we are enjoying this time together. This week< I am taking my granddaughter on her first trip with us. Just going a couple of hours away but it will be fun

Yep, We have a Minnie Winnie- not exactly mini at 31 feet, but we love it!! We bought it used and have put a lot of miles on it. So handy and you never have to worry about where you will sleep for the night. Your own bed and bathroom are always with you and your kitchen. In fact we have lived in our minnie winnie since the end of May. We are improving 10 acres and camping cabin in Northern Lower Michigan ( away from the terrible heat at home in Arkansas) and while we are getting improvements made, we are living in the motor home. I thank God every day that I have this beautiful woods and all the comforts of home and the cool northern air!! Life is good in a motor home!

We're getting ready to go to Maine!
I lived in a 27' old, old travel trailer for almost 2 years (many years ago, after my house burnt down) - it was wonderful! I loved it. |

We started camping in tents and did so for years. We worked up to a van and now have a small motorhome. I wouldn't do it any other way. We take it everywhere, even if we just go somewhere for the day. I have two dogs so they can go and I can turn on the generator and run the a/c so they are nice and cool while we run errands(I don't even have a/c at home!). If I buy frozen things and I am not going home for a while I can stick them in the freezer.I love having my own kitchen and bath when we travel, no filthy rest stops or terrible food. Now with the bed bug epidemic I never have to worry about staying in hotels if we need to travel.Since it is self contained you can camp anywhere allowed by law and have everything you need. We have travelled the entire US and camped in every state but 2. It is the only way I would travel and was a very good investment.

as a kid we camped all the time, my parents traveled all over the west with us in a 30 ft Champion motorhome. It was great, we rode in style and comfort with all the amenities at our fingertips. Mom needed her own kitchen and bathroom. I have such awesome memories of our travels. It's the one thing I wish I could have done more of with my kids, but hey there's always retirement |

Not as much as we could or should....but every now in then it is a nice change...besides hubby won't camp in the Scotty trailer, to small for him at 6'1"...and he doesn't like small closed in spaces.
We have an older Chinook, mid '90's 20ft motorhome,class-B, perfect size to scoot around in , yet still have all the comforts...including a potty & shower... I am hoping for some longer out of state trips w/hubby next summer, but the only way he will do that is if we travel in the Chinook.
Don't laugh, I have checked into the idea of having (& yes it's doable)a trailer hitch put on the motorhome to tow the Scotty...ah! the best of both worlds! lol!
