Hi Girls,
I'm going camping in Montana, just outside of Helena next weekend (I can't remember the exact name of the campsite, DH booked it!)
Has anyone done any camping around that area? What are some good sites and things to see and do? I'd love to hear suggestions from some of you local girls. Thanks!

The last time I was in Helena I was only six but I do remember tenting in 6 inches of slush and being mugged, yes mugged, by brown bear cubs while we were picking wild strawberries. Glacier National Park is very beautiful.
I am more familiar with the Bitterroot and Sapphire Mountain ranges just west of Missoula.
At any rate, all of Western MT is gorgeous and worth seeing.

Beartooth Pass is THE most amazing adventure! It goes from Montana's Northeast Entrance of Yellowstone past Cooke City, dips into Wyoming, travels to about 11,000 feet, and eventually ends up in Red Lodge, Montana. There are forests and mountain lakes, open country that you find in the HIGH country... Depending upon when you're there and the kind of snow year they've had, you could encounter LOTS of snow when you go or just patches... The higher reaches have open country which reminds me of the tundra you encounter when you're in northern areas.
I had been all around that area but never there. I remember, in 1976 while staying in Red Lodge, hearing about a blizzard and a vehicle that was stuck there. The next year a friend/penpal from Connecticut came to visit and we ended up taking the road. We saw the bear's tooth and thought it was nice scenery, BUT as we kept going were speechless! I've been there many times since then, but not for a few year's now.
It's been called the most beautiful road in America. I would whole heartedly agree!

Let me know what you discover! We will be in MT in July/August around the Beartooth Pass. It is beautiful, truly "big sky" country.

The only experience I have in Montana is really in the Northern part - Flathead Lake/Columbia Falls/Whitefish - and it is LOVELY! I'll bet wherever you go will be, also. I wish I had some more applicable information, but HAVE FUN!!!
