I absolutely Love Porcupines!! they are just so darn cute, they will follow you around if they trust you and I have even had one bring her new born baby to me! They can be destructive if they are in the wrong setting, however, here we have 50 acres of land and they do not pose a problem for us.
You are so fortunate to be able to handle one! something I would love to do, however, these guys are wild and I wish to keep them that way. So I will continue to enjoy their company when they choose to visit and treasure the moments.

When I was a docent at the zoo someone brought in an orphan baby porcupine. I was lucky enough to be able to raise it to adulthood. It was so small that it fit into the palm of my hand (no quills on the stomach area so I could hold him without gloves even when it was an adult. It would climb onto my shoulder and suck on my earlobe! We were planning to release him deep into the woods but he made such a wonderful program animal that we didn't get to do that. It was so playful that all of a sudden it would run around in circles with it's quill straight up. They can be destructive but I had a wonderful experience with them. JoAnn |
