Girls! I had such a great time yesterday! I went to my local shooting range, Georgia Mountains Shooting Association (GMSA) for the NRA sponsored "Women on Target" Instructional Shooting Clinic. It was for women taught by women, with some coaches that were men. It was very informative and fun.
It had been many years since I did any shooting... 1983! When I completed my four year tour in the U.S. Coast Guard. I went to this program to refresh myself with the firearms and safety.

I am not here to promote NRA or anything. I just wanted us women to know that if you are looking for informational classes or such about firearms that this is available to us.
Here is the main link: http://www.nrahq.org/women/isc/index.asp

The clinic for my area was from 9 am to 3pm with minimal fee ($10 to $15) They provided goggles, ear protectors, visors, lunch.

If any of you ladies are thinking about shooting firearms...new or seasonal... this is worth it.

...by the way, my coach said he would never enter my home without warning first!!!! I kicked butts! My cluster on my construction paper was AWESOME! YEEEEEEEEYAHHHHH!

heeheheee

Staci, this weekend is a special event for Appleseed. It is the anniversary of the first shot that started the Revolutionary War. All across the country at every event there will be a muster of shots fired at the same time! My DH is instructing in Lodi, WI. I can't go, I gave up my spot for someone else because the event was full! I encourage you to go, on the website there is a list of what to bring. It is so cool learning the old marksmanship skills and the history will make you tear up.

Wow, now you're talking.
I've looked at the NRA's Women on Target program before but they never seemed to be close enough to home. I'm definitely going to keep my eyes open for closer events.
All the things you talked about sound very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Farmgirls, there is also the RWVA (Revolutionary War Veterans Association), they hold weekend events that teach history and old time marksmanship. Women and current military are FREE! There is lots of events coming up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMYQFpPovfQ - this video shows an event. http://appleseedinfo.org/ This is their website. My DH is an instructor. Last year I had never even picked up a rifle and this year I am close to getting my Riflewoman patch! For farmgirls in Southern Wisconsin, there is a Women in the Outdoors Event. It is Saturday, July 10th. It is hosted by the National Turkey Federation. It sounds like fun...you pick four classes that you want. Small Caliber Rifle, Shotgun Handling and Sporting Clays, Dutch Oven Cooking, Turkey Hunting, Waterfowl Decoys, Wood Carving, Birding, Introduction to Camping, Archery, Bee Keeping Basics, Wine Making, and Creating Vine Wreaths. I think it is posted on the NWTF website.

Thanks for that link! I found a clinic for this fall in my area. I just recently got my FOID card at hubby insistence. He wants me to learn how to shoot. The range near me charges $200.00 for their lessons. The link you provided is much more affordable!
