I'm looking for suggestions from campers here in Washington. I'd like to start camping this year (I've never really been) so I need a site with camping "training wheels" - bathroom facilities, level sites, that sort of thing. Any great state parks or other spots you could recommend?

There's lots of places up the hill from us in the Greenwater area! My daughter works for the forest service, so I know we can get some insider info on the "places" to go!

Do what you love, love what you do.

Hey Kim, come here to Prosser. We'll break you in. I am in the planning stages of planning a "farmgirls on the loose" here in Prosser at the end of April..(April 30 -May 1) still working out the details. But, my farmgirl friend Nancy has acreage on the Yakima River and we plan on using that. I will put you on my contact list and I hope to post plans this week here on the connection.

Circumstances made us FRIENDS; MaryJanesFarm made us SISTERS :)

There are some beautiful spots on the peninsula - Kalaloch springs to mind as well as the Hoh Rainforest. I remember camping at Millersylvania when I was a kid and it was great, not sure if it is still "country" or not - that is not too far south of you, also some great spots in the national/state forest near Mt. Adams. Denny Creek, milepost 45 or so on I-90 is pretty too....I could go on and on:)

I used to go to Belfair State Park and It is perfect for what you are asking. We went there a lot for Church camp out.

I'm not sure how far away you want to go but if you want to visit a completely different part of the state, in a remote area (but about half an hour south from Lewiston, ID/ Clarkston, WA), Fields Spring State Park is a gem. BEAUTIFUL wooded location, especially when you consider you're so close to such a dry area. The bathrooms are heated with flush toilets and showers and there is a one mile hike to a place called Puffer Butte. If you get back on the main road you wind down into a canyon and are at the Oregon border.

I wouldn't go until May or June at the earliest, though. I've been there a couple of times in April and there can be snow -- it's fairly high in elevation.

It's one of my favorite places! Karin
