This is where I was last week. It's just about my favorite place in the world. My family's been camping here, on this particular trail of cabins even, since I was about 10 years old. These cabins were built in the 1950s, and the park is in the process of tearing them down and rebuilding. So I made sure to get pictures of the interiors.

The picture of the dutch oven in the fire is a batch of sourdough biscuits. They actually burned on the outside because the fire was somewhat hotter than I usually would cook with. Still good, though.

Check out the (blurry) picture of a bear! He's just a little black dot in the picture, but he was certainly big enough in person! I was way up at the crest of a forested hill, all by myself, and there he was. Fortunately, he ran away as soon as I made noise...whew, the rangers were right!

Oh, Amie! How wonderful! Love that you got to see a bear from a safe distance and that he was afraid of you! What a very neat and pretty place. Thank you so much for sharing these photos and your adventures in dutch oven cooking with us!

I'm actually not upset about the rebuilding. I thought I would be, but they're doing such a good job. They're trying to make the new cabins match the old ones as much as possible (some of the older cabins were built by the CCC in the 1930s, and the state considers the whole place historic). Same size and dimensions, same layout, same basic "look". They are working on 3 of them right now, and the work crew let us come in and look around. The foreman has been camping in the park for years himself, so he really understands what he's doing. I was ready to move right in!

I love those pics, and it's such a beautiful place!!!! I'm very envious, actually, it looks like it's right up my alley. I'm bummed that they're tearing down the cabins...especially when it's part of your childhoom memory. Progress!!!

Edited to add, I think you need to blow up and frame the pick with the yellow wild flowers. Just gorgeous!
