We took my 24ft motor home to the local county park yesterday and had a ball. We brewed coffee, baked scones, had cheese, crackers and chicken salad. We set up camp, read MaryJane books, talked and had a great time. We were there from 10am to 3pm. Didn't want to leave. Time was too short. Next week we will take some blow-up matterss and lounge under the trees, perhaps to nap? HOHOHO. Try it, it took only 6 miles from home to have a campout with friends.

Be good to yourself and be good to this earth.

Hi all- I'm back. Had a rough time of chemo this time, 6 days in ICU after my very last chemo. I am fine now. While taking chemo I spent 10 days camping at Klamath Ca fishing for salmon, and a week at Pismo Beach just laying around. Cant say I felt well during that time, but I would have felt just as bad at home. I have the most wonderful DH and he did everything possible to help me. I had great friends there also. Now, my lost radiation is Thursday Christmas Eve, and in Jan my sister and I are going camping at the beach for a week and go to Hearest Castle and the Mondona Inn in San Luis Obispo that is all painted pink, and each of the rooms are theme rooms, like a heart shaped bed in one, and one looks like a cave, one is all purple with a spa in the room, etc. They sometimes give a tour of the rooms. Too pricy for me. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. I am cancer free now, and remember, when the going gets tough, the tough goes camping. I will be back at the local parks camping as soon as Feb. I really love my farmgirl sisters.

Be good to yourself and be good to this earth.

Oh, Judy! My goodness! Doesn't it always have to be that way, handsome men coming to the rescue when you feel you aren't fit to be seen?! Been there, done that, with flat tires and such.

I am glad that you will be able to fit in getting fresh air and girlfriend time while you are going through your treatments. May God bless you and keep you and heal you!

We'll know how to find you. Yard gnome on ladder. Check! Very cute idea! You are doing great already!

I'm praying for you!

Had a set-back, DH called 911, Fire Dept was at house in 5 mim of call. Just like TV, they were hunks. They came in to find me, a plus size, in the recliner, both breast fully exposed, with blood squirting about 1 inch in the air. The breast had swollen with blood to a DD. I got home today, just one day in the hospital. What a laugh we had, I needed immediate care, but wasnt life threatening. DH was too upset to drive me safely. Anyway, my radiation treatments is where I went before, and it is just down the street from the park with great trees, fishing lake and our dry river bed. I will take to motor home to treatment each day and drive to the park for a few hours of camping. The girlfriends will come as often as they can. In three weeks time it will be too hot to be out after 10 am. I am hoping for 7am treatments so I can do breakfast daily at the park. If you are in Bakersfield, come by, its the park on Truxtun Extension. I am looking for one of those yard gnomes to tie to ladder of my motorhome. Wouldnt that be cute.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers. I have been thru this before so I know want to expect. As for taking the rig to the Kern, that is one really bad river. There are a few places in the valley you can safely fish safely off the banks. The campground Katmon went to is in Lake Isabella, about 30 miles from Bakersfield up the mountain. I have camped there at the Lake many times, great trout and catfishing, but I have never pulled a rig there, always the DH did that. I drive the canyon whenever I want to, used to do it 3 times a month when I worked, but too afraid to pull a rig. I have surgery on Friday, and I expect that one of my girlfiends will come over next week and drive the motorhome to a local park for us to "camp" I have made a new tablecloth,I re-vamped some old quilt blocks into aprons, and napkins to take. When the going gets tuff, the tuff goes camping. Will keep all informed as to procedure I will follow this time. I let everyone know about this nasty cancer, it may give others hope or needed information and emotional support. Go get your mamagrams, do matter what age your are! This cancer is one sneaky bas---d!

Be good to yourself and be good to this earth.

Oh, Judy! I will be praying for you and your husband. You are right, God is Good all the time. I don't understand His ways, but that is why He is God!

Went to the park yesterday, there were 4 of us. We cooked, drank, talked about our first kiss, we are all in our sixtys. We crafted, walked, and solved other peoples problems, etc. Great time. This will be the last time for a few weeks, I go Friday for surgery, my third go round with breast cancer. Been there, done that, I know what to expect, so I'm not afraid. The first time, 10 yrs ago I was terrified. God is Good All the Time. I will appreciate all prayers you can offer on my behalf and for my husband. He is terrified. I am not afraid, but I am not happy. HOHOHO.

Be good to yourself and be good to this earth.

Hey, Judy! Glad that you and your girlfriends got to go out and "glamp" it up! Sounds like lots of fun!

Once, when I was a waitress at the Hilton in South Dakota, I waited on Merle Haggard at breakfast! He had oatmeal, toast, and coffee and was very pleasant and tipped well. I didn't know who he was so I treated him like a regular person until they told me he was famous and then I think my hand kind of shook when I poured him more coffee. Ha!

Went camping at a local park Friday. Baked brownies, brewed coffee, set up ice chest as my table. I put new batteries in my boom-box and played Frank Sinarta, George Jones, Merle Haggard (my brother in law was a neighbor and played and sang with Hagg when they were in their teens- I never met him, but I am from Oildale too so I can call him Hagg) and some old time radio shows of Jack Benny. I embroided Swans and flowers on a hemmed piece of unbleached muslin. It may become an apron, table cloth, tea towel, shawl, whatever, I dont care, I love to embroidy. Five hours seemed like two.

We have a large camper also, I think about the size of yours. It has a bedroom and off the hall is the bathroom and lots of sleeping area in the livingroom and kitchen area. I love my camper and camping. We were going to go this week but it rained all week and has turned off cold now. So another week I guess. We just live a couple miles from Hardy Lake camp grounds so we can camp and take our boat out and relax and fish. Hubby loves to fish, I like to lounge around the campsite and cook. I have never used the stove in our camper coz I love cooking over an open fire. Looking forward to warmer weather here for sure. Springtime came but the cold and rain has taken it over for now.

~~Blessings, Mikki Jo

The scones were from a mix from King Arthur flour. My girlfriend brought it. This one was called Peaches and Cream. Out of this world. I hope she brings more next week. We are going to try to meet once a week. We are all retired age so we can get together during the day. We will go to a city park in the downtown area next, so some gal's that do work, or have appointments during the day can drop by for a cup of coffee. Or a glass of wine. We had a bottle of wine with us yesterday, but I didn't realize it was opened and re-corked, so we only got a small glass each, the rest was in the bottom of the ice chest. One gal did consider scooping from the bottom, but we go to laughing about it so hard, she had time to re-think it. The chest was clean, but not that clean.

Be good to yourself and be good to this earth.

Sounds like a lovely time! I'm jealous. We're taking our pop-up out next month for the first camp-out of the year. I can't wait.
