Posted - Feb 05 2009 : 3:51:05 PM I'm pretty sure almost al of ya'll have heard of Sisters on the Fly....but what about FarmGirls on the Loose???????? LOL....Please don't think I'm cheezy, but I have been dreaming this up for about 6 weeks now.....Now that I have by beautiful little vintage travel trailer (well, she will BE beautiful when I'm done with her!), I can put my plans in motion for Farmgirls on the Loose....I think it would be cool to have a happy campin' group of farmgirls that have get togethers in different locations every month (or quarter) for alot of camping out, cooking, junkin', what have you....but here's the kicker....I'd love for it to serve a good purpose!!! Where ever the location of the get together is....(closest town or community)...wouldn't it be great if we were to go to the local food bank and donate food? Each Farmgirl could bring a box....or donate all of our "non stylish", or "outgrown" or "just don't wear anymore" clothes the the towns local battered womens shelter.....Or make quilts and blankets (or just donate from our own cabinets)for the local homeless shelter...or in summer when our gardens are overflowing and we have more produce than we can use, donate it to the local WIC program........or volunteer on a saturday morning to help with a local animal shelter pet adoption days?.....or stay in a national forest campground and volunteer hike and pick up trash along trails and take it to the local recyle center?....See where I'm going with this???? And doing these things really wouldn't take much of our time...and we'd still have plenty of time left in the weekend to just relax and "FarmGirl" around!! I couldn't believe it...lol...but my hubby actually thought it was a great idea, and totally supports me!!...Now, I'm not trying to copy any other group or organization here, believe me,,,,I just thought that since I don't live out west near most of the other "vintage trailer" groups, that I could get one started around here...but with a different purpose to it, ya know? What do ya'll think....Could I even call it "FarmGirls on the Loose"? Because I think that is an awesome name!!! Who knows....maybe it would spread like wildfire!!!! Like I said, just been dreaming about for about 6 weeks or so, and like to see if there would be any feedback!....thanks for reading!! Kelley |

Posted - Oct 13 2009 : 08:12:39 AM Hey Deb,
Do you think we should plan a Laura Wilder week of travel with our campers.???
Next Sept. will be Wilder Days in Mansfield MO. There are so many sites that pertain to Laura Wilder. We can plan a week or less or more.
But..... the farmgirl farm fair in Kansas City will be Sept. 18 next year. We can camp at the site or close.
I have looked into a plan and sounds like a good time. Mansfield , MO, Burr Oak , IA, Pepin, WI and Walnut Grove , MN. Desmet, SD and Indep. MO.
We can get a map and plan it out. Make a huge splash every where we go and do some community service. Also the bed races in Mansfield. What a hoot.

Posted - Oct 13 2009 : 04:30:39 AM We're planning a trip to the Black Hills in June of 2010.... I'm thinking it would make a fantastic farm girl outing. :o) I'd love to make a side trip to DeSmet to visit Laura Ingalls Wilder home. (We've been to the little house in Pepin, WI)
We've winterized our camper already. We're not vintage but LOVE to camp & fish.

All I can think of right now is when Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse went camping and picnicing. Anyone remember that cartoon???

Posted - Oct 11 2009 : 7:00:41 PM I am hoping that summer of 2010 will be a summer of "Farm girls on the Loose".... Currently a lot of us up here in Washington have put or are putting our lil Glampers away for the Winter... I currently am co-hosting w/another sister from Sisters on the Fly, our 2nd annual Spokane camping weekend for June 2010. If anyone is truly serious about coming up this way next Spring/Summer or early Autumn(before Oct) I would be most happy to host a group... The Bowl & Pitcher up here on the Spokane River is breath taking as well as picturesque. Who knows, maybe my Aljo will be road ready. If not then I will be camping in my Scotty w/a porta potty! lol! Wowzers Wende, sounds like you have the makings for some great camping....come on you mid-west farm girls....don't miss this opportunity to camp in MO. ala Mickey & Minnie style! lol!

Posted - Sep 06 2009 : 6:16:09 PM I was re-reading through some of my "old" favorite threads and was reminded of this one, and what a great idea I thought it was. I am hoping that some of you out there still think it is as well. I thought it would be fun to build a schedule for Next year. If you are a farmgirl hosting an event either at your farm or in your community~ please let us know. I think it would be fun to let the "farmgirls on the loose" know so the ones that can... can caravan in.

Posted - Apr 09 2009 : 2:17:36 PM Hi girls. Here's something fun for those of you who are discussing outdoor bathtubs. This morning, we received the following request from the New York Times:
******
Have an outdoor tub? The New York Times would love to see it.
The Home section of The New York Times is doing a story on outdoor bathtubs. Funky or fancy, we’d love to see what you’ve done. E-mail Joyce Wadler, reporter in the Home section, at jwadler@nytimes.com. The photos are not for publication, they’re just to give us an idea of what you’ve done.
Thanks for your help. Joyce Wadler
******
So if you've already made your tub dreams a reality, send Joyce your photos!

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 4:58:47 PM karen, or should I say, Princess! haha! Usually the trailers that are 14' & smaller do not have potties....so we carry "chamber pots" & lots of plastic bags for those late nite "calls".... You can also buy one of those self contained port-a-potties at camping supply stores as well as Wal-Mart, Bi-mart etc.... The older trailer come w/ice boxes and the not so vintage have 3-way refridges.... I have not been to concerned about the potty as I usually camp in areas that have potties/showers. But for really Dry Camping I bring a port-able self contained potty. They cost around $65.00. The larger trailers, usually 15ft & larger have little potties & even smaller showers. Keeping in mind you have a 5 gal fresh water tank and another tank for your grey water and in some cases a 3rd tank for Black(sewer) waste. When you & I start snooping around for a trailer I'll fill you in w/more details. hahaha! hugz

Posted - Apr 06 2009 : 06:47:47 AM Not to put a damper on any of this but is there a way to have some conveniences? What years did they have frigs? And what about a portapotty? We won't always be going to parks with services will we? I am not a wuss but being over 60 sorta' made me turn into a 'princess' to some degree. Or is that a queen....well, maybe NOT!
