This morning the alarm SCREAMED at 5am and I jumped out of bed. I got dressed into 2 pairs of pants, two pairs of socks, my rubber boots, 2 shirts and a wool sweater and I got Nora bundled up. Two of my husband's and I's friends came by to pick us up. We swung by Wal-Mart to pick up hunting licenses.

We then headed out to some of the farmland surrounding Moscow. We had permission to hunt in a certain section. We saw several deer and even got two shots off, but unfortunatly the wind made us miss. We are going to try again tomorrow. I think I walked somewhere between 5-10 miles of rolling hills in snow that was sometimes up to my knees. We were exhausted by the time we got back but boy! Did we have fun!!

Nora stayed with the land owner who is a wonderfully sweet friend. Then one of my friends who had started up his truck accidently locked his keys in the car! We luckily got it unlocked by using a straightened coat hanger.

We are going to try again tomorrow morning and hopefully get a deer before they all head for the back hill country. Wish us luck!

Isn't that funny, Alee? They know when it's hunting season and they know when it's over. You hardly see any during the hunt, if any. Then when it's all over, they're everywhere!

Today as I was driving to work I saw three deer right by the road on the land I could hunt on. If only it was two and a half weeks earlier and still in season! LOL But I am glad that our hunting didn't scare the deer away from the area. I really do like the deer, so it doesn't hurt my feelings that I didn't get one this year. I just sure do love the taste of venison jerky! Yum!

The deer must have known I was envisioning them as Jerky and Steaks and such because they scampered further into the hills as I watched.

That's the spirit, Alee! At least you brought home some good memories this year. Nora's lucky to have such a momma

Oh Darn. I didn't get anything this year. Saturday was the last day of the season, and as I was driving home I saw 12 deer. Yup! 12!! All lined up next to the road and even running across it! And only about 1/2 a mile from where I had permission to hunt. All of those cute deer just stared at me with their big soulful eyes and shook their tails at me as if to say "Ha Ha! You can't shoot me"...LOL

Well I like living deer just as much as I like deer jerky so that's just fine with me. It sure would have been nice to have the meat though.

So now I have a year to target practice and get more familiar with my gun. Next year! There is always next year to try again!

Good luck Alee!! I am waiting for my friend's son to get his elk. His mom and I are planning to butcher it. (I am teaching her how) and making jerky too. I wish my husband were a hunter..no such luck..but we end up with plenty of meat from relatives (including the big sons) who hunt and bring us meat. I grew up on venison and especially love Elk..yum!!1
Let us know how you do!!!!!

We decided not to do the evening hunt. We almost had a success today, but still no deer in the shed. I am FINALLY going to get my license tomorrow (I have been the "spotter" since I don't have my license yet). I just need my Hunter's Safety number which is in Wyoming so I have to call. I am hoping to be able to get one either going to or coming home from work.

I second that, Lisa, not to mention injury and suffering of the animals. How was the evening hunt, Alee? My husband's brother stayed with us over Thanksgiving, so the 2 of them enjoyed some brotherly bonding time, and I tagged along some. I also practiced shooting a .30-30 which was fun. My shots all fell within a grapefruit-sized area just left of the bullseye - yea! It's such a pleasure to be in the company of skilled, ethical hunters. Now we've got a second deer in the freezer. The seasons here in Arkansas are so long compared to out west; I remember the pressure of trying to gather meat in a 2-week period. Good luck!!!

You're a good hunter, Alee. I refuse to shoot at anything unless I know 100% what it is and I'm sure that no one is on the other side of my target. I hear of so many injuries and deaths because people shoot at shaking bushes and such. Better safe and meatless than sorry and imprisoned!

We didn't get one this morning, but we might go out again this evening. Their was pea-soup fog everywhere. We saw about 4 deer, but there wasn't a clear shot. We practice safe shooting and good sportmanship, so we refuse to shoot at something that we can't clearly see, track and find. We also want to make sure that we always know where our bullets will go. If we don't get one tonight (if we go) we will be going on tomorrow morning as well. The season ends the 1st so we have go hurry if we are going to get our tags filled this year.
