Posted - Feb 12 2019 : 4:23:47 PM Okay, let me start by saying I don't fly. I flew way back in 1974 and had a horrible experience. Sad to say, I'm petrified to fly. Anyway, my husband wants to take a plane to visit relatives in the coming months. Guess what, he wants me to go with him. No buts, I'm going for him. How can I stay calm and enjoy this plane flight. Yikes, did I say I'm petrified already.

Posted - May 06 2019 : 9:13:07 PM When my sister and I took our grandkids to Disney World about five summers ago, for some reason we were on Southwest. It was crazy crowded! But as we were dropping lower and lower toward Love Field, our pilot began his banter. I thought he was from the Carribean somewhere. Then the front wheels kissed the tarmac, "Whoa Nellie, Whoa, Whooooaaa!" We were all laughing! I told my sister that he was the best pilot, because using his sense of humor he made us forget the stress of landing, instead he had us all laughing!

Posted - Apr 30 2019 : 7:46:54 PM Joan, we have a friend who was a pilot for American Airlines. One day I asked him how he did it. He said that he is a bus driver, but his bus is in the skies. The only difference is take off and landing. He flew for many years several flights a week. He was always home at night, in other words he would get his bus loaded and go from Dallas to wherever they were going. Then he would have some lunch get back on his bus, wait until his Dallas bound passengers were ready and drive them home. He said that his only problems were from unruly or inebriated passengers. He would not take off until everyone was seated nicely and had followed directions about buckling up. If they refused he called the guys to come and take the unruly one away...Then he calmed his bus load and brought them safely home.

Posted - Feb 17 2019 : 09:33:56 AM Joan I am going to be sympathetic to your plight but,,,my father told me as a child that I was not able to do steer the plane so"give it to God" and "enjoy the thrill of being where only birds used to be able to go!" I'm a travel girl from the early years but I don't think I have ever spent much energy on worry. You are going to be fine and enjoying your relatives with hubby will be remembered for a long time!

Posted - Feb 15 2019 : 12:50:28 PM Joan, I am the exact same way. I hate flying. I always find myself very nervous and sometimes even nauseous. Here is what works for me. I don't sit by the window. If I can see the ground disappear it's worse. I also take some of my own comfortable earphones and watch the movies they have available. It gets my mind off of what I'm doing. I will also try and sleep. It's not easy since it's not comfortable but it makes time go by faster. Also you could write out some conversation topics for you and your husband to talk about on the flight. Talking may also help calm you. And having the topics already written out will help if your to stressed to think. I hope my suggestions help.

Posted - Feb 13 2019 : 7:33:07 PM Joan,, I too fly a lot, and yes, I would be nervous days before my flight... but I finally realized that for me it was about 'control'.. I was not in control and that made me nervous...Once I acknowledged that I found that I just needed to keep my brain diverted & busy... So I read and/or play games on my ipad while inflight... over the years I have learned to relax,, I now enjoy my flights,, Prayer also calms me... And, yes, check with your doctor for suggestions how to calm your fears.. And don't be ashamed about your fears of flying...you are not alone.

Posted - Feb 13 2019 : 6:00:01 PM Joan, I don't like to fly either and at one time had such a panic attack right after boarding that we had to get off the plane. I have flown since then to go see my grandchildren and that is what gets me through. That and an immense amount of prayer when I get nervous. I fly alone alot.
